Kk 1st Fish!!

Shared by Rauman Laurent on July 30, 2016

At our home in Jeanerette, Louisiana we live on Bayou Teche and Makaylin had been set on catching her first fish for about a month prior to her passing.  Misty, myself, Makaylin, and Brennan have been living there for almost 6 months and had fished a couple weekends with other family members that came to visit tight lining for catfish and done pretty well. Each of those weekends Misty and Kk together really tried to catch some catfish on they're on and wasn't able to do so but watched others catch just making Kk try even harder.  She was in her custom fishing apparel all the way down to her combat boots which she decided to wear barefoot. Misty also seeing Kk so motivated was right beside her fishing hour's past dark day after day with no luck. After couple days Kk little feet started hurting from blisters which she said would make her tougher for when she went to basic training for the National Guard. When I heard this theory she had come up with I was proud as hell cause I had taught her over the years how to punch and defend herself as well as maintaining a real toughness. Which my tough angel had taken to a whole other level becoming quite the little fighter able to handle herself really well and didn't take any shit from anyone. Also couldn't help explaining that blisters and bare feet wasn't really good for feet and she needed to wear socks and keep feet healthy in order to actually increase toughness and durability. So here we were all 4 of us cause Brennan had even joined in a bit for all out war on the elusive Bayou Teche catfish. All that was left to complete Kk mission was a walking/donkey/snake stick!  Btw 4 donkeys sometimes like to threaten mission and Misty needed her lil soldier to keep them back as well as removing any snakes as well. So I took machete made her requested weapon which she immediately scourned me for being too long for her and needed motification  in order for her to handle buisness. Think Brennen just required couple cold beers and he was all in. We set all poles out with bait and while we waited for some action struggled trying get fire started for light cause rain had made everything damp Kk was checking all lines for signs of bite. We ended up leaving poles unattended and made trip to house for more supplies and beverage. During this trip apparently fish took the bait on pole without much aggressiveness and hooked itself enough that couldn't get away and when we returned Kk checked lines again and then with her patients growing thin started slowly reeling her line in little bit at time complaining that she just knew she had a fish. Of course I tell her she never gonna catch a damn fish if she didn't stop and let it sit which she repeats NO I KNOW I HAVE ONE! Misty says well Kk if you KNOW then do what you think is best with your pole!  And that is when the SEE WHAT DID I SAY? TOLD YOU TO LISTEN TO ME CAUSE I KNOW WHATS UP!  "Sure as shit stinks" like Misty says Kk reels in the 1st Fish of her career as all knowing Catfish Angler! She was so excited and proud it was best and most enjoyable fishing trip Misty and I will probably ever have! She ended up catching few more after that as well as Misty catching her some! I did not but didn't matter cause being part of something with Kk and family that we had done together for a first time ever was extremely rare and extremely rewardable!!  This is story that Misty,Brennan, and I have relived since Kk has passed several times laughing n crying over and will be very special memory we share for rest of our lives! Hope I was able to tell it well enough for others who know Kk to picture her happiness and swagger she expressed when it was happening!  Kk we miss you so damn much every day and will continue too forever!! You were the most amazing child/young lady/person I ever knew life will always be just little less enjoyable and exciting then it could be!! So Fly High My Tough Fisherman Angel!!! Hope I make you as proud of my story as you made me and your mom of you!!
