Our dear Mama G is gone

The families of Omoigui and Asemota regret to announce the death of their wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, Barrister (Mrs) Grace Onaiwu Omoigui on November 19, 2016 in Lagos.

She was born on December 28, 1933 and her life spanned several professional careers, starting as an educationist and former Vice Principal of Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Benin City, and later becoming a lawyer and retired Magistrate in the Lagos State Judiciary.

Mama G, as she loved to be called, fought a gallant fight to live but the Lord decided that her time on this earth was done. She died from complications precipitated by multiple gun shot injuries from an armed robbery attack in Benin City on her way from Guaranty Trust Bank, Sapele Road branch.

She leaves behind a legacy of love to one's neighbour regardless of cost and personal sacrifice. Even in the face of unprovoked attack, she did what she does best: rightly question the indefensible actions of the armed robbers as she felt it was wrong.

Mum lived a transparent life through and through. She was the pillar behind the family and would do anything to preserve its good name and defend integrity. She positively touched many lives at home and at work and we believe her legacy of sacrifice, loyalty, hard work, fairness, love, integrity, the importance of family and God’s love will live on through everybody she touched.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Surveyor Daniel Aiyanyo Omoigui, her children - Dr Nowamagbe and Moira Omoigui; Dr Sota and Helen Omoigui; Ifueko M Omoigui and Asishana Okauru; Eghosa and Eunice Omoigui; and Nosakhare Omoigui; and grand children, Ikponmwosa Omoigui, Ighiwiyisi Omoigui, Ayrton Omoigui, Iyegbekosa Omoigui, Izevbokun Omoigui, Grace Omoigui, Isiuwa Omoigui, Iyare Omoigui, Noe Ter Avest Omoigui, Iriagbonse Omoigui, Anni-Arie Omoigui, and Nete Okauru.

We are heartbroken at our untimely loss but are comforted by the understanding that this is the Lord’s way and our mum is resting peacefully in His bosom.

I have read a lot on Mama and I come to understand Mama was a precious a gift from God, whom had touched so many hearts in so many ways.
Losing mama is a difficult time especially for everyone who knew and interacted with her .may the almighty God comfort and helps to uplift and brighten the day of the entire family.
Mama, May you find comfort in the hands of angels. “A person’s true wealth is the good he or she does in the world.”

The passing on of Mama G is like the fall of an Iroko tree. An Amazon has left the stage and the curtains drawn. This opens a new scene (Part II) for the wonderful family she has left behind. A scene that God himself will be the main driver because only him can fill the vacuum that Mama G has left for the family. May her husband and children continually find solace in God's word which assures us that the death of a saint is gain for heaven. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace!

Mama G's rich biography speaks volumes and deeply extols the uncommon virtues of hard work, dedication and service to humanity. The consolation of her loved ones lies in the undeniable fact that she lived a well fulfilled life, worthy of emulation and celebration. May the soul of Barr. (Mrs.) Grace Onaiwu Omoigui and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace. Amen! - Paul Edemu
