Margaret Shepley, (My Mum)
My mum was Margaret Shepley. She was Born on the 26th December 1936 into a family who loved her very Much. Her Parents were Albert and Margaret Turner amd She had 1 Brother Albert, and four Sisters who were June, Marian, Sylvia and Anne She was a churchgoer who attended church from being little and in later life she was also a teacher for a while at West End Methodist.
She went to School when she was young and the last one was Ashton Gramma School.
She later Met and Married her husband Hughie Shepley when she was 18 and it made a column in the then Ashton-Under-Lyne Reporter as her parents were against the Marriage and the court made a Special Licence and they got Married on the 25th of March 1955. They were Married for a total of 57 years in all. From this marriage Margaret and Hugh had 8 children in all, they were William , Barbara (who sadly passed in 2010), Hugh(who died at 5 days old) Bernard, Michael, a baby who was stillborn,,Margaret( Laura) and Marian. Mum was always fair but firm when we were young. Margaret worked all her life at jobs including Patrios Cigarette factory in Ashton and Hyde, At a confectioners Lingards in Ashton, also worked at Juction Public House, as an Usherette at the Odeon Cinema in Ashton, and worked over the years for Paul Dean Turf accountants although she was not a gambler or Drinker.. Margaret(Mum) had Cancer towards the end of her long and eventful life and was a loving Sister,Mother,Mother-in -Law to Thomas and Jackie, , Grandmother and Great Grandmother and friend to all, who sadly passed away surrounded by her loving Family, of Cancer in Willow Wood Hospice in Ashton Under Lyne on 31st of May 2012. She will always be remembered for her good advice to all her family and friends forever.
