” Who can find a virtuous woman? Her worth is far above rubies” (Proverbs 31:10) The word “virtuous woman” in this Scripture is the word, “CHAYIL” a Hebrew word that means: wisdom, wealth, valor, strength, competence, active, power, riches, substance (quality) trained, a force, and worthy.
My mother manifested attributes of a Chayil Woman as described in Proverbs 31:10-31. She was supportive of her husband and family. She took initiative and showed creativity, working with her hands. Always made sure food was on the table, stayed up late at night sewing clothes to clothe her children, she made sure her household was strong, safe, and attractive. She was not a lazy and complaining woman, always found creative ways to provide for the family. She gridded herself with strength, took ownership of her own personal development in the church; enjoyed music and her favorite hobby was knitting; very much involved in outreach and ministry to the disadvantage, extended her hand to the poor and needy. She was strong yet gracious, a blessing to all of us, she opened her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue the law of kindness. She loved, respected, and honored God as her priority and Source for creating her values.
That was Maria G. Duran, my mother!
