Funny Memory

June 22, 2022
Just thinking about Marilyn today and wanted to share a funny story from grade school days. My first memory of her in grade school was of this skinny girl (maybe 1st or second grade) who had pierced ears and wore little hoop earrings. None of the other girls in my school that I knew of had pierced ears. So, of course, with my child’s imagination I assumed that she was a gypsy. There were gypsy groups (Romanians?) who came to Chicago in those days, so it wasn’t that far fetched. Later, when I met her family, I realized she wasn’t a gypsy at all but maybe of Polish heritage like me. We had a few laughs over that. I didn’t get my ears
pierced until my 40th birthday and had to put up with clip on earrings (very painful) for all those years.  Marilyn’s mother was lovely and was always feeding us. Good times

High School Pal

February 3, 2016

Gosh. I just happened on this website looking for old friends and found Marilyn. We were best friends during our grade school and high school years in Chicago. We lost touch with one another when the college years came around. I'm sad to see that she's gone, but it looks like she had a wonderful life. She was an energetic, smart, beautiful person and we shared a lot of growing up secrets during those years.

For Grief

August 15, 2015

When you lose someone you love,
Your life becomes strange,
The ground beneath you becomes fragile,
Your thoughts make your eyes unsure;
And some dead echo drags your voice down
Where words have no confidence.

Your heart has grown heavy with loss;
And though this loss has wounded others too,
No one knows what has been taken from you
When the silence of absence deepens.

Flickers of guilt kindle regret
For all that was left unsaid or undone.

There are days when you wake up happy;
Again inside the fullness of life,
Until the moment breaks
And you are thrown back
Onto the black tide of loss.

Days when you have your heart back,
You are able to function well
Until in the middle of work or encounter,
Suddenly with no warning,
You are ambushed by grief.

It becomes hard to trust yourself.
All you can depend on now is that
Sorrow will remain faithful to itself.

More than you, it knows its way
And will find the right time
To pull and pull the rope of grief
Until that coiled hill of tears
Has reduced to its last drop.

Gradually, you will learn acquaintance
With the invisible form of your departed:
And when the work of grief is done,
The wound of loss will heal
And you will have learned
To wean your eyes
From that gap in the air
And be able to enter the hearth
In your soul where your loved one
Has awaited your return
All the time.

On the death of the Beloved

August 15, 2015

Though we need to weep your loss,
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts,
Where no storm or night or pain can reach you.

Your love was like the dawn
Brightening over our lives,
Awakening beneath the dark
A further adventure of colour.

The sound of your voice
Found for us
A new music
That brightened everything.

Whatever you enfolded in your gaze
Quickened in the joy of its being;
You placed smiles like flowers
On the altar of the heart.
Your mind always sparkled
With wonder at things.

Though your days here were brief,
Your spirit was alive, awake, complete.

We look towards each other no longer
From the old distance of our names;
Now you dwell inside the rhythm of breath,
As close to us as we are to ourselves.

Though we cannot see you with outward eyes,
We know our soul's gaze is upon your face,
Smiling back at us from within everything
To which we bring our best refinement.

Let us not look for you only in memory,
Where we would grow lonely without you.
You would want us to find you in presence,
Beside us when beauty brightens,
When kindness glows
And music echoes eternal tones.

When orchids brighten the earth,
Darkest winter has turned to spring;
May this dark grief flower with hope
In every heart that loves you.

May you continue to inspire us;

To enter each day with a generous heart,
To serve the call of courage and love
Until we see your beautiful face again
In that land where there is no more separation,
Where all tears will be wiped from our mind,
And where we will never lose you again.

I'll miss you

July 6, 2015

Marilyn was one who could always bring on a smile every time you would see her. She was infectious. I remember Marilyn as being a 25 year old in spirit and optimism no matter what her age. She was special in this way.

Marilyn was one of our industry icons, though she always maintained a modest and humble profile. That aside, we all still knew she held great sway and influence with many.

I was fortunate that Marilyn helped me in my career. I greatly regret that I hadn't thanked her enough for all she did for me.

Marilyn carried herself with such beauty and grace. I will miss sorely miss this great great lady.

I am with you always

June 30, 2015

Right now I'm in a different place,
And though we seem apart,
I'm closer than I ever was...
I'm there inside your heart.

I am with you always

I'm with you when you greet each day
And while the sun shines bright,
I'm there to share the sunsets too...
I'm with you every night.

I am with you always

I am with you when the times are good
To share a laugh or two,
And if a tear should start to fall...
I'll still be there for you.

I am with you always

And when that day arrives
That we no longer are apart,
I'll smile and hold you close to me...
Forever in my heart.

I am with you always

Canticle: There Is a Place

June 30, 2015

There's a time for remembering, a time to recall
The trials and the triumphs, the fears and the falls.
There's a time to be grateful for moments so blessed,
The jewels of our mem'ry where love is our guest.

There is gold that is gleaming in the past we once knew,
In our tears and our laughter 'twas love brought us through.
There's a road we have travelled, where sunlight has kissed
That carries us onwards when loved ones are missed.

There is treasure in our fields. There is treasure in our skies.
There is treasure in our dreaming from the soul to the eyes,
For wherever we gather in the light of God's grace,
And for all whom we remember, there will be a place.

There's a promise of God that is written in the stars,
For all who may travel no matter how far,
God will be our companion each journey we make,
In the shadow of loved ones to lighten our ways.

In the guiet of the evening at the close of the day,
We will rest on our journey and to God we will pray.
May we thank God for blessings, the moments we shared
As we seek for tomorrow close by us he'll stay.
