Her Life
July 24, 2014
Obituary for Marilyn Lou Gilbert/Green/Moffett/Egerdahl/Malone   Our beloved Marilyn (“Mare”), the freest spirit of them all, passed away on July 1, 2014, after years of fighting a plethora of illnesses, always confident of overcoming these maladies, yearning to again fly to distant and exotic places in this earthly world, especially her dear Paris. She was one of the most charismatic, charming, seductive, loving, artistic and loyal people one could ever know. Mare was born in Seattle, August 6, 1944, her Leo spirit evident from the start. Her education included a wide range of schooling and experiences, from Seattle Public schools (including Queen Anne High), to a girls’ school in Gstaad, Switzerland (hob-knobbing with the children of the rich and famous), a high school in Germany and on to the University of Washington as an Art major (oil painting) and a “sister” in the Sigma Kappa sorority. She left these pursuits to take a fashionable job of the times, “stewardess”, for Alaska Airlines, starting in the summer of 1965, which was to be a 35 year career! Along this interesting journey, she collected many people, admirers, suitors, husbands, fellow flight attendants, art devotees, always surrounded by a circle of friends encouraging and supporting her, especially in her lifelong pursuit of art. Art for Mare was found in many forms, from watercolor sketching to painted ceramics, oil paintings, beaded necklaces and poetry writings. She wore many coats over the years, from hypnotic adolescent to free-wheeling hippie to Tarot Card/Palm Reader to Born-Again-Christian to mother/wife/confidant. She drew people to her like a magnet gathers metals. She dominated her audiences and spun us into an otherworldly space. She helped so many of us grow up and discover our true selves. Her departure from this earth leaves a huge void.  She leaves behind her most precious accomplishments, a daughter Laurie and son Nathan. In addition to her children, she leaves behind her dog (Brando), her most recent group of acquaintances at the Four Freedoms on Bitter Lake where she has been living for the last several years and innumerable friends.. She was, and still is, a true force of nature. Bon voyage to our wonderful Mare.
