A tragic accident in 1989 brought Marilyn into my life. There are no words that can express my gratitude for her kindness, dedication and love during the hardest times of my life. Even after the injury was healed, she continued being the most caring person I know. Maybe even to the point it seemed nagging (MAC would agree). Marilyn will never be forgotten. She will always be with us.

Back when the Zasuwa’s were Mr & Mrs USA Hockey coach(es), we really had some good times! Looking back, we didn’t realize what special times those were. Would have loved to have been a fly on the (car) wall on your drives back home after the games! Then years later, who meets in an airport & says “we just bought a house in the Keys!” & then the other couple says “we just bought a house in the Keys!”....and so the next chapter began. What a beautiful, kind, woman. Marilyn’s smile is forever. Peace & Love.

Marilyn Zasuwa 08/02/1952- 04/25/19
Today my best friend, buddy and fellow adventurer passed away after battling cancer for the last year. I worked ceaselessly for her comfort on a daily basis. The current medical system does not make it very easy since they do not know when to throw in the towel. This eclipses almost 22 years of fighting cancer off and on which tried to steal her away from me. She was my best friend and took the best care of me like I actually needed it since I didn’t know I needed it. That is what was great about Marilyn she could sense your needs and lovingly offered every bit of herself to you. We only had one child, but she took in my son’s friends as if they were her own when they lost theirs. She learned the art of vegan cooking to tend to our son’s temporary aversion to enjoying delicious food (it’s okay, vegans, my son wrote that). She was not afraid to do anything, from riding my motorcycle to fishing in the Keys 15 miles from land with a novice captain to riding out hurricanes in the Keys -she was my rock. While raising our son, she turned our home into a miniature version of the Detroit Zoo (cats, turtles, dogs, birds, insects), celebrating the life of every living thing. She loved art, and music, and supported me and my family unconditionally in our artistic endeavors.
An expert gardener, farmer, cook, swimmer and lover of life, she did not go easy. That was not her way. She experienced life to the very fullest and believe me, I made sure of it since I am so dangerous by myself. Nothing scared me and nothing scared her. There was no sense in living in fear. I salute her for making me appreciate life so much, more so than I could do by myself. It was so great being married to her that I cannot imagine being happier then I have ever been in her arms every night of our 46 years together. I hope she talks to me from time to time and keeps me company.
After 40 years of working at Beaumont as a Hand Therapist she continued to help people even after retirement and was an unselfish practitioner of healing and hand functionality. As a guitarist, I have many hand problems and she helped in my neediest of times. Please join me in celebrating her life with good thoughts because I can’t imagine her being jealous of anyone still alive. I made sure she experienced everything as much as possible to max. I love you Marilyn. See you in the next reality.
