Russ was born September 9, 1920 in Brewton, Alabama, the youngest of the four children of Annie Hurt and Clarence Perkins Holman. Her father’s pharmacy profession took the family briefly to Tuscaloosa, then Montgomery where Russ graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and attended Huntingdon College. She went on to Peabody College in Nashville and the University of Alabama, returning to Brewton after college to work at the Bank of Brewton. Through mutual friends, Elinor and Jack Hines, who knew they would be perfect for each other, she met her future husband Frank Daughdrill Jones. They married in 1949 and moved to his hometown of LaFayette where they were blessed with 53 years together, raising their children, serving the Lord through their church and community, and later, enjoying their grandchildren.
