Marlene J. Cook, 90, of Chelsea, AL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 13, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Doris DeBoy and son, Michael Wayne Heine. She is survived by son Jeffery Heine, Daughter-in-Law Valerie Heine, son Barry Heine, Grandson Christopher Heine (wife and Grand Daughter-in-Law Joy) of New York. Brother Darrell DeBoy (wife and Sister-in-Law Dottie), niece Lori Lancaster, niece Lisa Stepanion, nephew Darren DeBoy.
Marlene had an active and adventurous life. She loved to travel; in fact, she visited all 50 states including Puerto Rico. She loved cruises, three of her favorites were to Alaska with family. She cruised on the Queen Elizabeth II to England and flew back on the Concorde. Her favorite destination was Hawaii with her mom and dad. She lived in Indiana, Pennsylvania, California, Florida and Alabama and she was a Bama fan – ROLL TIDE!
She was born on a farm in Indiana. In Pennsylvania she lived through a flood. In California she rode in the Goodyear blimp over the Rose Bowl. In Florida she opened and managed an oil change and car wash business. In Alabama she was a Red Hatter and rode on the back of a Harley.
She also loved her fur babies and was never without one. Her fur babies included Boots, Missy, Chevis, Mercedes (she always wanted a white Mercedes), Katie and Miss Priss. She was tech savvy - using Facebook and her I-phone better than people half her age … sometimes. She loved the game Words with Friends, Pogo, puzzles and was the best person to sit next to play cards.
She wasn’t one to sit still. In her younger years she was in a bowling league, took country line dancing classes, played the accordion and keyboard. Later on, she was a very good quilter, and her quilts can be found in friends and family homes across the country. She took up oil painting, put together many jig- saw puzzles, but her passion was her family and cooking for them. She hosted the family Sunday dinner for as long as anyone can remember. The Sunday dinner table always looked like it was a holiday, and everyone was required to bring containers for leftovers. She was so generous, just mention a food craving and on your next visit she’ll have bought it or cooked it. She was a lover of bacon. Lately her favorite pastime was grocery shopping. In fact, just a week before passing she was spotted filling her cart at the local Publix grocery store.
