Marlene (Judy) Denise Simmons passed peacefully in her home on August 2nd in Dayton, Ohio. Marlene was born in Lorain, Ohio on February 26th, 1954 to Martha Jane Johnson and Jessie L. Simmons, and raised in Monterey, California where she completed secondary school. Marlene was extremely intelligent, an extensive traveler and an avid learner. She received her degree from Brown Mackie College in Human Resource Management. She worked for the City of Dayton for several years before moving to Cincinnati, where she transitioned into quality assurance for the Internal Revenue Service. Marlene’s hobbies included spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading sci-fi books, watching western television, and cooking. She loved all music genres, working on puzzles, dancing, bowling and entertaining family & friends. 

She was preceded in death by her daughter Sharla Simmons, granddaughter Naomi Simmons and sister Marla Wardell. Marlene is survived by her son Derek (Naphtali) Simmons, daughter Jessica (JaBarry) Smith, grandson Amillyan Simmons-Lacking & granddaughter Alona Simmons-Lacking; sisters Loretta (Otis) Phillips of Monterey, CA, Tawanna Wardell of Lorain, OH, Leslie Wardell of Yonkers, NY, Annette (Tim) Bland and Yolanda (Antonio) Smith both of Cleveland, OH; brothers Howard Simmons of AZ and Troy Wardell of Lorain and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Memorial services for Marlene Simmons will be held Saturday, August 19th at 11am-1pm at Mt. Enon Church located at 1501 W. Third St. Dayton, Ohio, 45402. Guests are encouraged to wear purple in honor of her birthstone & favorite color. Please park in the side lot and enter through the gymnasium to the designated room.
