Farewell Martin - one of the good guys. You did a great project at SIHI Pumps in (about) 1988 introducing CAD to our 2 draughtsmen. I remember thinking it would not be easy when one of them said, at the very first project meeting, "Over my dead body!" By the end of the project you had won him round and he thought it was the best thing that could have happened to him.
My very best wishes to Emma. Terry Newby

I worked with Martin through SPP Pumps, not only in Manchester but more recently from Dubai, Martin was always a very polite calm person I enjoyed working with him.

He will be missed by so many, my thoughts are with you all and I hope you can one day smile again at the memories you all shared together.

Sending you all my thoughts and love.

I had heard of Martin Copson first when I came to the UK back in 2009 but never got to meet him in person until he took charge of the Middle East operation in 2015. It was an absolute delight though I got to work with him for a very short time. He was a great person at heart and gave me a lot of support in my work.

His health started deteriorating when I had moved out of Dubai about 4 years back and could not stay in touch but always had the belief that he was on his road to recovery.

When I heard the news about his demise, I was shocked and equally sad.

My prayers and condolences are with Emma and the kids and hope they get the patience to go through with this difficult situation.

He will forever be missed!

Glad to have known Martin for around 25years and had some great times together in work and also following MCFC in Manchester and around the UK in the early 1990s. One game stands out when we beat Arsenal around 9 years ago we won 3-0 against but we missed all 3 goals as we were in the bar for 2 and went home early for the third. (well to town for more beer) He will be sadly missed by all that knew him RIP

Thinking of you all today. I always remember how full of love and laughter your wedding day was with the children at the centre of everything. It sounds like you lived and loved every moment you had together and that’s really special. Love to you all xxxx

Farewell to a friend, my boss.. Martin

Today, we said our farewell to you, Martin... I didn’t have the courage to say this on your memorial service... I’ll just share here...

My sincere condolences and prayers to Emma, Meghan, Oliver and Harry. Martin was not only my boss but like a family to me. He understood what it felt like when my children were sick and needed for me to stay at home. Whenever I ask something for my family he will easily say yes, asked me if my children and family are doing well and tried the best he could to help me.

When I went to the UK he supported me a lot, and was even surprised coz he asked me: What about dinner, will you eat salmon? So he was looking at my IG posts and noticed I only post salmon every time I eat outside. Numerous times you defended me from nasty emails to absurd phone calls. Small things like that I appreciated it. He cared for us, he cared for our families.

Your humor was impeccable. I told you I was struggling with my laptop and have restarted many times and you said: you’ll have to talk to it.. and it worked! I just happen to know today from Emma that what he meant was talk to IT and not it! Then when I told you I think I am starting to talk like in a Coleford accent you said: Oh no Haidee don’t get a Coleford accent I would much prefer you had a more Manchester accent like me ! The comfort you have given me when I was alone for the trip in the UK was unforgettable.

Thank you for the sincere friendship, thank you for the trust, thank you for the respect, thank you for the countless times you supported me. I will never forget you, Martin, you will be forever missed by many especially your friends and family. May your soul Rest In Eternal Peace .

Oh Coppo...you were a legend. A gentleman and a true BFF to my big brother, a guy he could always depend on. You two were the true definition of friendship...brothers through thick and thin. I remember your green mini, you and the crew turning up to my 18th after the pub and a vague recollection of you shuffling your feet across the dancefloor to the 'Roses' I think. You were the Ant to his Dec, the Morecambe to his Wise or has he pointed recently "Statler to his Waldorf from the muppets...two grumpy b***ards moaning all time!!" Sleep well Cops. Sending lots of love to Emma, Oliver, Harry and Megan xxxxx

Sometimes in life we are lucky enough to meet good people, and Martin was one of them. A genuinely nice, hospitable and friendly guy and the world is certainly worse off without him here.
We shared a few laughs, some chats, some beers, and the odd cheeky cigarette, and we are so sorry that we were unable to meet over the past year.
Our love remains with Emma, Oliver and Harry.
Martin will be missed by many people.

I was terrible shocked to hear of Martin passing. I just can’t believe he’s gone. Martin (Coppo) and I studied at Manchester Metropolitan together. Martin is a great friend to remember and a friend I will miss so much. I think about all the laughter and the good times at Manchester. Nights out and our late night visits to curry houses in Rusholme after night outs. In fact Martin took me to my first football match at Main Road when his beloved Man City use to play there.
He was kind, down to earth and very easy going. Even though he’s gone, his memory still remains in our hearts. His smile and face will never fade.

Emma my deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your children.

Rest in perfect peace my friend.

I was truly shocked to hear of Martin's passing. I thought he would go on forever.
I wasn't sure what to expect when he and Emma first arrived at the SPP office in Dubai, fresh off the plane from sunny Manchester, but it took no time at all for me to realise that everything was going to be OK and we were in good hands.
From his 'calm under a crisis' exterior, through his sense of humour, to his full support as a manager, Martin was one of life's good people. Our thoughts are with you Emma and the children.

Emma, very sorry to hear this news about Martin. He will I am sure be missed terribly by you and the family. I have great memories from when he was a young man working at SIHI UK in Bridgewater Rd with you and the others. That was quite the crew. Although I never really was one of the younger gang (even though I was pretty young!) I can imagine it was a great atmosphere. He was truly indispensable at work and I know he went on to bigger and better things after he left SIHI. He was way too young. My best wishes to you and your family and you have the comfort of all your memories together. Cheers, Andrew

Not easy to put the loss of Martin into words really. He's the reason I joined SPP because I felt I liked him and could trust him, trust being a key component for a Nottingham lad, he never did anything to change my mind on that.
Someone to enjoy or bemoan the daily toils of working and everyday life with. Supported me through difficult times with my own son which will never be forgotten or underestimated and my heart goes out to Emma, Ollie and Harry.
Your Dad may be gone, and we hope to a better place, but I am sure you will make sure he is never forgotten.

There is a light and it never goes out.... Probably the song that reminds me most of you Cop, and quite apt now. You definitely brought a light to so many people 's lives that they will never forget. We were only teenagers when we met, a similar age to Harry! We were naughty - in a good way drinking underage under canal bridges which progressed to the Pelican, The Tap and later to the dizziness of the Manchester scene at the Ritz on a Monday night, The Venue(I think thats what it was called ?!) on a Tuesday, Banshee on a Thursday, smattering of Hacienda on indie nights and a gig or 2 at one of the International 's or Boardwalk at the weekend. Happy, happy days filled with so many fantastic memories. The Smiths and New Model Army blasting out in either yours or my pea green mini was inevitable, with far too many people squeezed in the back on most occasions It seems like yesterday! You took me to City games and we drank in Yates ' wine Lodge on Saturday mornings before I went to work! I stayed at yours in the spare room if we were out clubbing in the week because I wasn't allowed to stay out late (which is where most of my homemade ear piercing took place!? ) We never lost touch, you found your absolute soul mate in Emma and adored your beautiful family - Megan, Oliver and Harry. I wish I had managed to visit you all in Dubai, I am jealous my mum and dad got to spend such a fantastic time with you last year and I wasn't there - but that was you all over. You hadn't seen my parents for about 20 years but still took the time out to welcome them to your home and look after them. Love you Cop ❤️I can't believe I will never hear your voice saying 'alright Parz' again xxx

My deepest sympathy for this kind hearted soul, Martin.

Words cannot describe how much of a lovely person Martin was. I enjoyed working with him throughout a hand full of memories and reminiscence. He was an open minded, benevolent human and one of the best managers I’ve ever had. Being so simple, He would never accept being called ‘Sir’ instead wanted to always be addressed as Martin.

And as Leo Buscaglia once said,

“I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.”

My heart goes out to each and every one in this family. May God Bless them and ease this painful period by guiding them with abundant strength and courage. May he lead you on to your future under his wings through rightful paths.

R.I.P Dear Martin ❤ ,
Sending Love Alex & Family.

RIP Coppo Martin Copson Another mate gone too soon. Met him, Muggy , Foss, Pete and Grizz thanks to James Young. Will always fondly remember the glory days at The Salutation and Maine Rd where you played a big part introducing me to MCFC and of course the times when we met up again following my move back to Belfast. Big love to Emma Copson and the boys from us all

Martin was one of the loveliest men I have ever had the privilege to meet. I cannot remember Uni without thinking of him bombing around the streets in his little mini with sometimes four of us as passengers (pre health and safety of course).

There are so many amazing memories of him, that I couldn’t possibly list them all. He was the most loyal friend you could ever hope for and would do anything for anyone. He did have the smelliest feet I had ever known, but his personality filled the house with much more than an aroma of rotting veg. He loved a drink, but didn’t we all and there was nothing better than finishing a night out with a curry in Rusholme. I’ll never forget the time he tried to prove his manliness by ordering the hottest curry on the menu. He went so red, I was surprised he didn’t spontaneously combust.

I was so pleased that Martin came to my wedding, even though we hadn’t seen each other for years. It was so nice to see how happy he was with his lovely wife Emma and reminisce over copious amounts of alcohol (just like the early nineties).

I was so pleased to hear he had found a happy life in Dubai with his family, I only wish I had the opportunity to get over there to visit them.

Our recent contact was usually about the meeting of his beloved City and my team Liverpool, with Martin claiming bragging rights, unlike the occasions standing together in the Kippax.

I cannot believe I will not share a beer and all the old stories with Martin again. He was one of those friend that even though you follow different paths for years, the second you meet, it’s like you’ve never been apart. I always assumed that would happen again. My thoughts and prayers go to his lovely family.

I am really going to miss you Martin, you were one of a kind. Rest in peace mate and hope to see you on the other side for that beer.

Kevin (or as Martin always called me.... Chirpy) The Southern Softy of Rusholme!

So, so, sad to hear of the recent passing of my old pal Coppo.. Martin Copson.

We were pals throughout our time at William Hulme’s Grammar School, spending loads of tine fishing, listening to The Smiths, generally getting up to no good, and later many a good night in the Temple and the Pelican ( Coppo fully pierced my ear with a safety pin on one particularly messy night in the Pelican !! )
Jackie and John always made me feel welcome in their family and I was lucky to share a couple of holidays with them. I managed to find a few old photos of a holiday to Cornwall with Andrew Booth (Beefy) ..must have been around 1986???
After finishing school we drifted in different directions, and for many years lost touch! I was always sad that happened, and regardless of exchanging messages in recent years, never managed to get another ale together! Coppo was a cracking lad and a good mate back then, and reading recent comments and tributes to him, it looks like he was a good man, and good friend to many!
My thoughts are with Emma and family, and to all others who’s lives Coppo touched!
Rest easy fella ❤️

I really can’t believe the news that has filtered through that we have lost my oldest friend Martin Copson to the great gig in the sky .

Born 19 days apart, from the time we could crawl brought up more like brothers than friends across the road from each other and at Park Road Primary School. Our parents said the pair of us just dealt in mischief from the very start.

Football and cricket in the back gardens and in the days when you could play in the road. Being told not to play with darts and then coming up with a game to throw them from one end of the garden to one another, only to end up with one embedded in my foot!

Camping in the back garden, only so we could sneak over the fence at midnight to go night fishing by the canal bridge in Timperley, before the days of being told of weirdos.

Holidays in Anglesey, Cornwall and at his Grans in Worcester to name a few.
The teenage years when the music took over, The Human League Dare album, then introducing me to The Smiths with Meat is Murder, which is still a regular on the turntable, New Order and Bowie. The early gig days at The International and The International 2, drinking and smoking in basement cellars listening to tapes all night.

Football took us in different directions, Blue and Red and although hard to say this, I'm glad you witnessed so much success over the last 10 years!

Having left Manchester in 91 and loosing contact for 10 years or more, only to make contact again. Unfortunately I don’t have any childhood pictures, but hoping some of my family has a few of us from the time, which if found will be posted.

My deepest condolences to Emma, Harry and Ollie. If you need anything please ask.

Sleep well my friend ❤ RIP.
