This website was created in memory of our loved one, Martin L.  Loppnow, 58 years old, born in 1963, passed away, unexpectedly as he was walking home, and was found on February 8, 2022.  Cause of death has not been determined as of this date, however foul play is not suspected. Martin was preceded in death by his father, Robert Loppnow.  Survivors include his mother, sister, brother, niece, nephew and great-nephew.  He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

There are currently no memorial events planned however you are encouraged to share any stories or pictures, under the tab "Stories" above, or under "Leave a Tribute" below. Guests may also enjoy seeing some photos of Marty under the "Gallery" tab at the top and may contribute to the collection.   Also, friends are asked to refrain from contacting his mother out of respect for her privacy.  Thank you.

A Findagrave memorial has also been made for Marty for a cenotaph that will be engraved on his parents' stone in Galveston Cemetery, Galveston, Indiana.  Virtual flowers/comments can alternatively be made there.

Marty and I were housemates in his last years of Aeronautical Engineering at Purdue University. We were both shy and he was generous and kind so we spent most of free time together . We had a lot of fun, especially at the house where Becky the vet student sub-leased two rooms to us. Becky was a horse enthusiast, and there was also her shy sister, and the very lively Jill. We were treated very nicely by the ladies; being a shy gentleman, Marty behaved very properly.

Marty was a good cook, i remember the rump steak he slow roasted to share with me. He also brought me to his Indiana home during school vacation. He told me in a 2014 email that his mother still remembered my visit.

I haven't seen Marty since our Purdue days, as we were moving farther and farther apart geographically, he moved west and i stayed in the midwest for a few more years before i went back to Hong Kong. I was just thinking about him tonight and found out about him from google. Rest in Peace, Buddy!

I miss you so much. I think about you every day. I wish there would have been more time with you. I am so thankful for the time I did get you. You were so kind and thoughtful. It's not fair that I survived and you dropped dead. I just hope you did not suffer.

"Marty The Fun", it breaks my heart to learn of your passing. Though I only knew you for three short years, you brought joy and laughter to me every time I had the honor of being in your presence. I looked forward to every visit Mike and I took to California because I would get to see you.

You have been a great friend to my boyfriend, Mike Walter, for over 20 years. He is at a loss for words and his devastation in learning you are gone is inconsolable. In time, I'm sure he will be able to send a few words.

I send my condolences to his family and friends. Marty truely was a joy to be around and was taken from us too soon.

I Love You "Marty The Fun"

Oh Marty this breaks my heart...My last name was Buchanan. My brother Mike and I would be down at the Loppnow's it seems like daily playing ping pong in their garage. Marty was always the kindest, calmest, and funniest guy. I remember one time I had a date for the prom and the person I was going with ended up in the hospital and I wasn't able to go and my mom said you should ask Marty to go with you. I thought I can't ask Marty he is like another brother to me. My thoughts are with all of his family. Lisa Buchanan-Biedermann

His Life
February 16, 2022
Marty graduated in 1981 from Maconaquah High School, Bunker Hill, Indiana.

He graduated from Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana in December 1986 with a B.S. in aeronautical/astronautical engineering.

Eventually Marty moved to California for work and remained there. He had many diverse interests and passions.  He loved the study of law, mechanics, flying, computers and music, among others.  He often expressed how much he loved the desert, mountains, and clear sky. And, perhaps above all Marty Loppnow loved his family, and showed it in his last days by flying twice to be beside his sister as she fought for her life due to COVID.  She recovered and he flew back to his home, only to be called to the beyond himself almost a month to the day.

Road Trip

March 27, 2022
Last summer Marty learned that I would be driving by myself from Oregon to Southern California just after I had reconstructive surgery on my shoulder. He took it upon himself to purchase a one way plane ticket to Medford so that he could drive with me and I wouldn't have to make the trip alone.

We spent 14 hours in the truck just talking about any and everything that came up. Navigating life choices, mistakes, accomplishments, discussing law, mechanics, and even love. His selfless act of going on this trip with me is and forever will be one of my most favorite memories of Marty. He was so smart, funny, and had an endless kindness about him.

North Grove

Karen relates that Marty's mother told this story - "It must have been in 1965 when we moved back to North Grove and we lived across the street from your family...Marty was 2. Lots of years of living and loving and knowing you since then!"
Karen and Debbie's brother, Chris, was Marty's best friend growing up in North Grove.
