Obituary

October 26, 2011

Marty Daryl Mitchell died October 24, 2011 in Orem, Utah.  His passing was unexpected and sudden.  Marty was born November 30, 1957 in Greensboro, North Carolina to Dorothy Lawrence Mitchell and John Townsend Mitchell or better known as Junior. Marty spent his childhood in Greensboro and was proud of his southern roots. He spent many weekends with his dad at the races and became a fan for life.  He loved keeping track of drivers and their standings during race season.  He loved baseball and football.  Going to baseball games with his father was a favorite memory of his.  He was a big football fan and could be found many weekends cheering on his favorite teams.

Marty was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He served a mission for the church in Pocatello, Idaho from 1976-77. Marty loved being a missionary and continued to share the gospel even after his mission.  He was unabashed in his love for the gospel and never hesitated to share it.  Marty studied the gospel and read the scriptures regularly.  He was not only a teacher through several callings he held, but also through example.  He was a true disciple of Christ.

Marty married Jolyn Bohne on April 18, 1992 in Gaffney, South Carolina.  They were later sealed as eternal companions in the Atlanta, Georgia temple on April 18, 1997.  He was a devoted and loyal husband.  Marty and Jolyn made Tennessee their home for nearly 20 years.  In June of this year they moved to Utah for a new adventure out west.
Marty was always the life of any party. Whether he was singing a duet with his wife or accompanying someone with his guitar, he loved to entertain. He was quick with a smile, a joke, a story, or a song and could do it all in a silly voice that would have his audience of 2 or 20 of more bent over in laughter.

Marty rarely met anyone who didn’t become his friend. He was warm, full of humor and easy to talk to.  He made everyone feel important and his sincerity was never questioned.  He was not a fair-weather friend, but true and caring at all times.  He was dependable and someone you could count on.  He truly loved and cared for the people in his life.

Marty had a passion for his work and his creative mind kept him busy inventing, devising, and facilitating new and useful products for others.  His family hopes to continue his vision and passion for this work.  Marty had many talents, interests, and hobbies.  But above all, his number one love was his family. His motto was “Family First” and lived it accordingly.  His special joy was his grandchildren, Brianna, Jared, Laila, Elanie and even the new grandbaby yet to be born.  They will all miss their grandpa.  Marty was a true family man and loved all the moments he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.  He will be dearly missed by many.

Marty is survived by mother Dorothy L. Mitchell, brother John T. Mitchell, III, wife Jolyn Mitchell, children Brittney Mitchell, Daniel (Leslie) Mitchell, Kristen Van Pelt, Christopher Blake (Kimberly) Mitchell, and Celeste Van Pelt.  Marty is preceded in death by his father, John T. Mitchell, II.

Funeral services will be held Thursday October 27, 2011 at the LDS Chapel, Orem Park 10th Ward, 50 South 750 West, Orem Utah, 84058. Viewing will be at 1:00 PM and the service will begin at 2:00 PM.
