His Life

Sergeant Shields was born to the late Romana Shields and John Webber on January 28, 1945 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was retired from the U.S. Army following 20 years of service, and was also an officer at Jack T. Rutledge Correctional Institute. He was a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of Deacons Ministry. He also served as Vice President of The Fraternal Order of Turtle, Laredo Lodge #99 - Modern Free and Accepted Masonic Organization, and the American Legion Post 267. He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Shields, Jr. and two siblings, Marion Shields and Beverly J. Shields.

Surviving his departure with cherished memories, include: his wife, Mrs. Sherry Wall Shields; two daughters, Joyce West (Sam) and Lavina Shields; two step-daughters, Alicia J. Bell and Geraldine Greene; two step-sons, Henry Louis Bell, Jr. (Betty) and Aaron P. Bell; a brother, Edward Springer (Ester); a sister, Harriett Ann Shields; one god brother, Ike Howard; twelve grandchildren and six step-grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
