Mary's Ashes to Carmel - Feb. 15, 2013

February 15, 2013

Today, Monty and I along with 16 others took Mary's ashes out to sea off of the Carmel Coast. She and I along with Monty spent many hours walking along the beautiful beach down from Ocean Ave. in Carmel. We would hold hands while Monty played in the surf. He would retrieve objects thrown out into the water until he became exhausted.

From the boat, we could easily see this beach with people walking along its golden sands. After pouring Mary's ashes into the sea, Monty and I placed a red rose over the ashes. Others followed! The sea quickly captured her ashes and now she is part of our wondrous oceans.

I will also say that Monty felt something very strong as he watched the roses go into the water.   He understood at a level that I'm unable to explain.

Before Mary's passing, she and I had discussed this. I'm sure that the bright sunshine of today and the calm seas were the doing of Mary through the hand of God.

Mary's Life

February 8, 2013

Mary Angela Koehler-Marley, 60, of Sunnyvale, California, passed away in the El Camino Hospital on Feb. 5, at 7:20 PM, after a long illness, with her loving husband Arley by her side.   Born in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of Joseph P. and Antoinette M. Koehler.  Raised in College Point, Queens, where she attended primary and secondary school, she graduated from St. John's University with a degree in Mathematics.

Mary joined the Boston sales office of ASK Computer Systems in 1980 having worked at Burroughs. While there, she worked closely with the London office supporting European sales operations. Within 3 years, she moved to Chicago to become Regional Sales Manager. After consistently beating quota, in 1985 she relocated to the Corporate Headquarters in Los Altos to run Western Regional Sales.  It was within a year that she would meet the love of her life, Arley.

Always open to new challenges, in 1988, Mary became Vice President of Service Operations for all of the ASK Product Lines, where her responsibility included profit center accountability for all North American Customer Training, Technical Support and Consulting.

Ultimately, Mary became Vice President for all of MANMAN Operations, adding Software Development to her responsibilities.

In 1994, Mary left ASK to lead sales for several start-up companies during the dawn of internet-based software companies. After a few years, she decided to leave High-Tech and delve into a career in Real Estate, where she could continue her contact with tech executives, but from a more personal position as their real estate agent.

Mary started with Alain Pinel Realtors, Los Altos on January 15, 1996.  Mary received the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding and consistent sales success over the years.  She was certified both as a Relocation Specialist and as a Senior Real Estate Specialist.  Mary earned a reputation among her peers as being ethical, knowledgeable and diligent.  She measured her success by her ability to understand her clients’ needs and help them achieve their goals.  This is what she enjoyed most.

Mary was a loving wife to Arley C. Marley III, whom she married in 1989. She is survived by brother Peter and wife Lenore of Staten Island, NY, and brother Joseph P. of Nashua, NH, as well as nephews Joseph and David. She was a loving stepmother to Wendy Orf of Olympia, WA but Wendy always called Mary "Mom".

Her Rotary experience convinced Arley to become a Rotarian.  It took four years but once Arley committed, they formed an unbelievable team.  She stood by his side during 2011-2012 as Arley became Rotary District Governor.  She was truly a First Lady in Rotary and loved the Rotary experience, especially all of the people she would touch.

Mary enjoyed race walking and Rotary with a special love for her dog Monty. She ran a number of marathons, including NYC in 2003. Most of all, she enjoyed holding loving hands with husband Arley while walking the beaches of Carmel with Monty.

Her ashes will be placed at sea off the Carmel Coast on Friday, February 15th.
