Her Life
January 11, 2022
Mary Anita Buckner (Elder) was born on May 18th, 1950 to the parents of Kelly Henry Buckner and Rosemary Quarles (Buckner) in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was one of eleven children: five boys and six girls. She peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022 at her daughter’s home.

Mary attended Aiken High School, where she graduated with her high school diploma. Afterward, she became a court reporter, then she worked as a forklift operator at Fusite factory where she was unfortunately injured and retired. However, her number one love was taking care of others. She became a professional caregiver and cared for many including her mother, aunts and even siblings.

At an early age she gave her life to the lord and was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist church. She was in a ministering singing group that would travel. Their favorite song to sing was “Long as I Got King Jesus”. In 2012, she married the love of her life Roger E. Elder. They re-dedicated their lives to Christ through baptism and became ordained Elders together. She loved serving in the church in all capacities, from singing in the choir to serving during potluck.

Prior to her passing she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling. She loved to dance, sing, and play Phase 10. She was an excellent seamstress and a great cook. She made sure no one left her home hungry. Mary was selfless and if you were in need, she was always there to help. Whether it was monetary or just advice, Mary would give whatever she could. She was everyone’s “mom” or “aunt” and will be missed dearly.

Mary is proceeded in death by her loving husband Roger Edward Elder; parents Kelly Henry Buckner and Rosemary Quarles (Buckner); Her siblings Joseph Jackson- Buckner; Kelly Buckner; Kellena Buckner (Cornist); Orland Buckner; as well as her son Kenneth Ball Jr and granddaughter Brittany Walker.
