Her Life

High School Years

May 19, 2013

Mary was very involved in the drama department and had several of the role roles in her high school's productions.  While I can no longer remember the roles or the names of the plays, I can remember seeing her preform.  See was like a Hollywood star to me. I can also remember that her was involved in a summer stock production of Bye, Bye Birdie.  She really was a drama queen in those days.

Mary also loved to sing and was in several school choirs, as well as, our church choir and sang every Sunday morning.  She loved the old hymns and choir music throughout the remainder of her life.

After her birth until she was about 8 yrs old

It was right after WWII and my parents moved to Madison, Wisconsin so that my father could finish his Chemical Engineering degree. ( Little do she know that 20 years later she would graduate from the University of Wisconsin with a BA in Asian Studies.)  They then moved to Buffalo, New York.  In the interim of moving my brother Don (Jr) was born.  My mother again stayed with her sister, Aunt Fran, and delivered Don at White Plains Hospital.  They didn't even have the time to find a new place to live before his came into the world.  He was also a beautiful, or should I say a handsome blonde!

They lived in Buffalo for the next seven years because I know that I was born there 5 years after Don, and I was 2 years old when we moved to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

I was always told Mary loved school and was a very good student.  Once she learned to read, no one could get her to stop.  She loved reading about everyone & everything.  She always wanted to know what was outside of her own world.  I still can remember my mother telling her to stop reading and go outside for a while.

Birth

May 8, 2013

Mary was born during the hot summer of 1944 in White Plains, New York.  Her mother, Carol, delivered her in the early hours of the morning at White Plains Hospital.  Don (Sr,) her father was still in Texas.  They didn't expected her for a few more weeks.  Carol was staying with her oldest sister Fran (Frances Mary) and her husband Hank at the time.  Mary was named after her Aunt Fran, as she entered the world as Mary Frances McIntire on August 21, 1944.  She was a beautiful blonde!
