Mrs. Givins was born Wednesday, February 7, 1923, in Elmore County, Alabama, the daughter of the late John Henry and Irene Messer. She was a member of Reeds Chapel Baptist Church and retired from West Point Pepperell after 30 years of service. She was a housewife, and avid Braves, University of Georgia and Auburn fan.

Mrs. Givins was preceded in death by her husband Charlie William Givins and her son William Marshall Givins. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Futral; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Linda Givins and Donald Ray and Rhonda Givins; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren; her sister Nellie Strong; her brothers, Johnny Messer and Fred Messer.
