Mary Helen Stewart Cagle was born in Cloverport, Kentucky on November 23, 1934, and passed away at the age of 86 on July 10, 2021, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mary Helen was a loved saint and servant in the Church of the Nazarene. She provided a warm smile and a friendly word for everyone around, but one of her greatest impacts was made at the piano. She will be remembered in the Nazarene churches for the beautiful gospel music she provided during services. She was a gifted church pianist and organist for more than 60 years. She was the daughter of a Nazarene pastor which began her love for the church but continued as she became a wife of a Nazarene pastor and continued to service in the Nazarene Community. She was always there to lend a helping hand and was ready to serve those in times of need or grief. She most enjoyed her role as a loving mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother as she had the privilege of being involved in different stages of each of their lives.

Mary Helen was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Joe Cagle, her parents, Paul J & Mary A Stewart, her siblings Jim Paul Stewart and Sharon Woods, and her ex-husband Joe Ben Cagle.

She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Mary Jo Cagle (Randy Mashburn), Teri Jo Jacks (Dennis), & Paula Jo Endicott (Earl), her 7 grandchildren and her 5 great-grandchildren, plus a host of nieces & nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Jasper First Church of the Nazarene (Address: 400 14th Ave West, Jasper, Al 35501). Visitation will begin at Noon and the service will begin at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for you to consider donations to either Mary Helen’s home church of Faith Church of the Nazarene (Address: 4820 Skyline Drive, Warrior, Al 35180) or to the UAB Palliative Comfort Care Unit that helped her during her end of life. (Address: 1713 6th Ave South, Birmingham, Al 35233).

In my mind I can still hear her playing the big Hammond Organ through that Leslie 922 as I'd walk in the door of the tabernacle at Rolling Hills campground before a camp meeting service. No one else could play it quite like Mary Helen could. When I heard that sound I knew I was at Alabama camp meeting.

Love and sympathy to a wonderful family. My association with the Stewart Family goes back to 1967 or '68 when Rev. Paul J. preacher a college revival at Bethany OK, First. I pastored with him on the old Florida District in Jacksonville. I had him and Mary for revival in Madison, AL. They stayed in the parsonage. Pastored on the old Alabama District with Joe Ben. I retired, the second time from Tuscaloosa First. Heaven is sweeter to day!!! Looking forward to seeing them all again in a better place!
