"Dear Laursen family,
I knew Mary Lou through P.E.O. She was a wonderful lady and will be truly missed. She was a great help to me during my first time as a P.E.O. Chapter president, and I know she made a positive difference in many lives. I am so greatful to have called her sister and friend!"

"Dear Laursen Family,

Mary Lou was such a special woman.  I knew her through P.E.O. and it didn’t take long to realize that was her passion.  The ladies in Virginia spoke fondly of her too.  She was quick to volunteer to help - especially if it involved shopping.  She was my mentor and a special friend and I’ll miss her so much."

"Dear Family of Mary Lou,

My family will gather again this summer in Galveston at the end of July. We will miss Mary Lou terribly as we gather at the beach, she has always come to play games with us and join us for dinner or lunch. We know that she will be sharing all of our Joy from up above filling our memories of times with her.

In my last visit with Mary Lou she said, "We have had some wonderful times together haven't we, it has been just wonderful!" Of course, I agreed as we held hands and laughed. There are many wonderful memories, two that come to my mind first are, one the day that I had the honor of pinning her with her AXO Fifty Year Pin. The second is the day that she toured me and my mom around Galveston, showing us all the "hidden jewels" of Galveston. I loved it, we also had dinner at a wonderful restaurant and watched the cruise ships leave. Oh, one other, the day she won my painting during a raffle, she screamed "I won, Oh Lesa, My Love Child"! We laughed about this for ages!

There is an Alpha Chi Omega ceremony that I will be performing in honor of Mary Lou this summer at the beach. For many years I have been proud to call Mary Lou my sorority sister and my friend. We grew up in different parts of the country and were at different stages of life, but this did not keep us from relating to each other on all of levels of life. We shared a bond that has a motto "Together Let Us Seek The Heights" I know the Heights of Heaven have welcomed her as she has struck the Omega chord on her earthly Lyre of life--A life well lived.

With love,

Lesa Hooker"

"To me, Mary Lou was Ms P.E.O. Our chapter was new when Mary Lou moved here and joined it.  Most of our members didn't know all of the rules and regulations, but Mary Lou knew everything, and could get us out of any mess we were in.  She was so gracious to open her home to us, and was the type of person all of us wished we could be. One day I saw, on her wall, a picture of the Parson Capen House.    I told her That My husband 's mother was a Capen and that was one of her relatives.  This was very interesting to me since my husband and I had never seen the house.  When she and Harry moved to Galveston, she gave the picture to me.  Every time I look at it, I think of Mary Lou.  She was a very special person and I will miss her a lot.
          Yours in P.E.O.     Suzanne Kemp"

"I was so surprised to learn of Mary Lou's passing.  Her dedication to PEO was inspirational.  She had a deep loving concern for others that seeped out of her.  Although she wasn't an official member of my PEO chapter, she taught much about  what service meant.  She gave me a great little hand written card when I moved from Texas, and I displayed that card at my desk throughout my time working on my masters.  She will certainly be missed by many."

"Dear Laursen family,
Our family was so sorry to hear of Mary Lou's passing. I have known Mary Lou almost my entire life through PEO. She was such a wonderful, caring woman. She took a particular interest in my oldest son, James, who plays tennis. She and Harry would give my husband,Ronnie, and James their men's clay court tickets for the nights they weren't going. She would come watch James play in tournaments. The last one was about 3 years ago in Memorial Park. She loved hearing about his successes. She will be greatly missed and now she suffers no more and has been reunited with Harry in the presence of God. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Toni, Ronnie, James, and Alex Fojtasek"

"Dearest Family of Lovely Mary Lou,
What a joy to know your mom!  Sparkle, wit, laughter, kindness, compassion, grace, humor, beauty, and a fair amount of grit - all come to mind when I think of  Mary Lou and her life, well lived. How lucky are we to have parents who loved their families beyond measure and passed with full hearts - happy, grateful, at peace.

I am deeply grateful to Steven and his family for giving me the opportunity to get to know Mary Lou. You all have blessed and enriched my life in extraordinary ways. I hold you all dearly in my heart and look forward to the next time our paths come together, and I ask you, Steven, to tell that story again of your mom chaperoning the high school trip and the train ride & we'll giggle all over again!  xoxoxo Jane"
