Mary Newton Lyon, 85, a longtime resident of Creedmoor passed away Sunday, May 13th 2012 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham following a period of declining health.
A native of Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Cuther F. and Ora Clay Newton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willliam H. “Billy” Lyon, Jr. in December 1990. Mrs. Lyon retired in 1988 from the Durham Merchants Association. She was a member of Creedmoor United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be conducted at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 16, 2012 by Dr. Jonathan Jeffries.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Lyon Brubaker and son-in-law John M. Brubaker of Boone, a son, William Harrison “Harry” Lyon III of Creedmoor, four grandchildren, Michael Brubaker and Christopher Brubaker of Boone, Lauren Lyon and Bill Lyon of Creedmoor, a brother C.J. “Junior” Newton of Butner. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sallie N. Roberts, three brothers, Russell F. Newton, Jr., Lynwood Newton and Chester F. Newton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Creedmoor United Methodist Church, PO Box 368, Creedmoor, NC 27522 or to the charity of one’s choice.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor prior to graveside service.
