Mary Magdalen Mumford, age 101 passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Sunday October 1, 2023. She was born in Dayton Ohio on July 23, 1922 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was a devoted wife and mother to 8 children.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Beavercreek Ohio. She was a graduate of the Dayton Art Institute and worked as a window dresser and instructor of students with visual impairment at Roosevelt High School. She was also employed at Inland. 
 She was elected to the Beavercreek City Council in 1983 and continued that position until 1995. She was elected Democratic State Central Committee woman over 14 counties and Trustee in 1968. Mary was regional vice-president of Ohio Federated Democratic Women of Ohio and a Greene County Democratic Executive Committee. She was awarded "Woman of the Year" in 2003. She received a Proclamation from the City of Beavercreek on 100th birthday designating July 23, 2022 as Mary M. Mumford day. Mary also served on many boards and committees including the American Red Cross and Miami Valley Disaster Services Authority.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Anna Anca, husband Robert, sons Robert Jr. and Kenny, son-in-laws Fred Szonnell and Bob Bruns. Her brothers and sisters Louis, Edward, Helen, Catherine and Julie. 
 She is survived by her daughters Mary Szonnell and Anna Bruns, sons Jim (Dottie), Tom (Becky), Sonny (Kathy) and Joe Mumford. She also leaves to carry on her legacy 12 grandchildren (Christine, Michelle, Cheryl, Nicole, Ryan, Andrew, Steve, Angie, Patrick, Brandon, Sean and Amanda) as well as 20 great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by many extended family members and friends. We are thankful that Mom has touched so many lives and we have all been truly blessed by her presence. 
Her visitation and service will take place on Monday October 9, 2023 at 10:00am. at the W.E. Lusain Funeral Home at 2455 Stanley Ave. Dayton, OH 45404. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery following service.

Mary was good to me when I owned a business in Beavercreek. She was a great lady. When I was young I was friends with her son Tom.
