Welcome to the Tribute page for my lovely Grandmother, Mary Yick Ching Fong.

She was a beloved Grandmother, Mother, Godmother, Aunt and friend. She spent her life putting smiles on peoples’ faces and touched the lives and hearts of so many with her beautiful spirit and loving nature.

She lived a long and fulfilling life and I am honoured to have known an Angel and a wonderful person in my Grandma.

She was called to Heaven to be with God on a peaceful Sunday, the 16th August 2009 but we will always carry the special moments we shared with Mama in our hearts and we know she will always watch over us, just like she did when she was alive.

We miss you Mama and we love you always.

On the tribute page, you can

Read Mama’s Eulogy in the “HER LIFE” section

See her pictures in the “Gallery” section

Share/view/post memories of her in the “Memories” section.

Lastly,

If Mary has touched your lives in any way, please light a candle for her just like this one by my Uncle Matthew.

My mother's Doctors

August 27, 2009
by Amy teo

There were 3 doctors who played a very important role in my mum's life. Her very first was Dr Wang, who took care of her diabetic condition for more than 30 years, (approx). Dr Wang, faithfully and carefully, monitored her sugar condition, her water retention problems and was always on hand during her hospitalisations especially during her final days. His warm and friendly nature, and full medical care and attention through various conditions, helped my mum to live to a ripe old age of 90years.

Next, along came Dr Koo, my mum's favourite doctor. Dr Koo was introduced to my mum after she had a heart bypass in late 1990. His favourite term for my mum was "Dear Lady". Dr Koo never failed to bring a smile to my mum's face every time he appeared and his witty and jovial remarks always made her feel young and happy. I recall, he even surprised us with a large sunflower, all sunny and cheeful, for her during one of her hospitalisations last year.  It made her day and ours too!. His unique nature, his warm style of medical care and attention, his caring and practical ways of dealing with my mum, we will always remember of him.

Last in the scene was Dr Tan. Oh, this doctor really scared us all when she first appeared on the scene last year. She was so serious and strict, with a no-nonsense attitude that the family nearly plotted to get her out of my mum's life. It was a good thing we did not. Dr Tan certainly knew how critical my mum's condition was at that time, and she took control,, She continued to show the care for her, even at times when we felt we wanted to give up, and in the process, she taught us a lot of things for which we really can't thank her enough. It was really like a love/hate relationship with Dr Tan but her wonderful medical care gave my mum and us the opportunity to spend a  very meaningful and close relationship for another good 15 months. Even towards the end, she was there with us, helping us medically, emotionally, and in everything we needed.

To all the 3 doctors, our heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation. May God bless you and your families.

The last moment I shared with my Beloved Grand Auntie , Kim Poh

August 18, 2009

Hi, I would like to share what happened on 16 Aug 2009. The incident brought me and my beloved grand aunty, Kim Poh closer than before.

My mother and I were invited over to have dinner with everyone ... we were all happily eating and drinking ..

Not long later suddenly I felt a chill , my hair on my neck just stood. Feeling uneasy , i stopped eating .. excused myself .. sat at the sofa to rest ..

Somewhere about 8.40pm plus, while sitting at the sofa , trying to relax ... my heart started to ache and  pumped harder .. it was so difficult to breathe .. I found it very hard and painful to breathe .. each breath that entered into my lungs ,felt  like a knife stabbing deeply .. truly, that feeling was unbearable .. i burst out in tears and cold sweat. Meanwhile , my mum decided come and check on me ..simlpy because she wondered why I left the dinning table so fast. She was shocked to see me so pale and in pain.

In a panick, by then, my mum was already at her wits end .. when she found out that I couldn't breathe properly .. Instantly, everyone soon crowded around to see me .. worried and concerned, ..  I knew something was not right .. yet I was unable to pin point what was the main reason ... seriously, I felt that I would die at that point.

At the same time, Mark realised something was amiss, observing everyone attending to me. Without hesitation, he stepped into the room to check on Kim Poh along with Nicole .. They realised that  no longer was kim poh breathing. Mark called for Jie Jie Pauline .. she too confirmed that Kim Poh had left .. Everyone rush in to see her ...

As soon as everyone knew that Kim Poh had really left, miraculously,  I got  better and somewhat back to my normal self .

When I touched Kim Poh for the last time, i experienced  that same chill from her body.

Everyone figured out that why I was chosen to be the ONE , all because I was sitting all along at Kim Poh's favorite spot of the sofa.

On the whole,  I knew I was blessed to be able to encounter such and emotional phenomena. Truly, at that moment, i knew that my Grand Auntie was at peace.

God's Garden: A poem for Mama from Diane Lim

August 18, 2009

God's Garden

God looked around His garden
And He found an empty place
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your precious face

He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest;
God' s Garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He knew you'd never ever
Get well on earth again.

So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered " Peace be thine "
Then He took you up to Heaven
With Hands so gentle and kind.

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God welcomed you home.
