Thank you all for the best 20 years of my life.
 Please take care of yourselves.
Once COVID is under control, perhaps we can have a coffee at
Tillies; named after Tilly Poulson, one of our founding members.
The legacy of her contribution lives on and so does yours.

What can I say, Madge? 20 solid years of teamwork, great projects and events, friendships and great memories. I loved the homemade cards. A lot of your work was invisible, behind the scenes, encouraging people to try things out, take risks.
I trust you are proud of your considerable accomlishments. You are appreciated by so many.

I wish you all the best in this next phase in your life and blessings to your family.

Hi Mary Anne,
I am of two minds about you leaving SEESA. I am sad because you have been such a positive force and a pleasure to work with during these past years, and I know the membership of SEESA will miss you. I am happy that you are starting a new chapter in your life, and I wish you success and happiness wherever this takes you.
Thank you for the pictures. The Golden Girls will prevail.
With love and good wishes,

Hi Mary Anne,

Congratulations on your retirement and your concentration on your celebrant business. Your rapport with people makes you perfect for people to come to for guidance before or after the loss of a loved one. I wish you all the very best of success.

Twenty years is a long time. You have established many good friends, including me, during your time there. I suspect this new chapter in your life is exciting and will fill your heart with joy knowing that you are helping folks with their planning, bereavement, and celebration of lives. Your essential service is such a benefit.

Coffee with you in Tilly’s Restaurant would be lovely. What a big change we will be seeing with the changes in staff, new guidelines, new faces and new paint on the walls. I am looking forward to meeting up with friends in person.

Congratulations and best wishes, and I’ll see you in the future.
Hugs, Brenda

What a 20 years it was. In my 15 odd years working there, not a single event happened without your own special brand of imagination and enthusiasm. You have no idea how many times I rolled my eyes at the word 'teacups', and got ready to search the web for menu ideas.
You would brighten my day by simply saying hi, and asking me how my day was going. I thank you for that.
I am confident that you will be successful going forward.

I am sure going to miss you. You did light up a room where ever you were. Brought tears to my eyes to see you leaving. My Prayers are with you in your new venture as you will do very well as you are a very kind and compassionate lady. You did a beautiful job of your web site.
Many Hugs,

Thank you MaryAnne for sharing all these photos. It was so much fun to scroll through all of them, and to reminisce. You accomplished SO much during your years at Seesa, and I know only a small part of all you did (highlights for me have been the rummage sales and the Remembrance Day services). This is such a strange time for marking a transition to a new life stage, but trust you to find a beautiful and novel way to include all of us in your farewell and transition. I wish you abundant success with Shine On.

Oh my gosh - where to begin?
Many people in the past year have said to me “You are SEESA!” - I disagree - You Mary Anne are SEESA - whatever I started it was only because I was following your lead. You set the tone of what SEESA became, and it became a wonderful, welcoming, safe, fun, healthy, second home for hundreds of people.
You hired me as Volunteer Coordinator back in 2003 - and I was so happy to get the job - I loved coming to work every day. I met amazing life long friends.
I remember in a staff meeting once pointing out that as a staff we spent more time together than we actually spend with our families. And we had a beautiful staff, I cherish the memories of the wonderful team we had. You and I found many common bonds and I think we were a fantastic team.
The photo of your Ty in the kitchen was the NYE that we did not have a cook for the New Years dance, your Mother-In-Law came in to head the team in the kitchen, and the team consisted of your family and mine. We were never hesitant to pitch in when and wherever needed.
Then there was the time you hit me on the face with a 2 X 4 - it was one of the only times in my life I actually saw stars! I know you felt bad, and I know I tease you about this, and it was not your fault. But we can still laugh about it.
The costumes and the dress up events, from pirate to Hollywood glam, we did it all, and that wasn’t even counting Halloween!
Rummage Sales - good gosh, those were amazing - you and Bernice took that event to a new level, and somehow it got better every event. Like every event you took on - it just kept getting better. Fashion Shows, November 11 celebrations, anniversary parties, drama productions, volunteer appreciation, k-days breakfasts, hay rides and so many more.
My dear dear friend, it has been an honour working with you these past years, I look forward to seeing your next step.
Love and best wishes as you spread your wings and soar
Kim (aka Kimberly)

The Next Chapter

May 13, 2021
As many of you know I have been offering celebrant services for a number of years. It is truly where my heart is and I feel that it’s ‘now or never’ for me to build this business called Shine On Memorials.  I will miss the view from my office shown here.  Look out Volunteer Coordinator, here I come.
But first, a couple of months to finish our renos, plant my garden, read, practice yoga, work on Shine On Memorials.  I am looking forward to enjoying our home and spending time with Winston, Winnie.  Surely a walk most days, perhaps a bike ride.
As for Tyson and I?  We are planning to haul our Greystone for a 7 day trip to William Switzer Park and take various short trips over the summer.
After this rest I will look for a part time job as a receptionist, concierge or recreation aide to compliment my Shine On Memorials business.
I hope our paths cross again. Please remember my memory is lacking. The work I do with you is rewarding but I cannot carry all the precious details.  I do tend to live in the moment and often the past eludes me. I always like talking to you.
Building Tomorrow Today - The future is bright.

Time at SEESA

May 13, 2021
In August 2000 I found an ad in The Edmonton Examiner.  It read, "Looking for an Office Administrator for South East Edmonton Seniors Association.  Must be personable and have typing skills.  Please reply with resume to 9350-82 St."  Since I was working a Northgate Lions as a Program Assistant I knew how great senior centres were.  After all I was coming from the most cheerful place going.  I met with a 6 person committee.  Seems what should have seemed intimidating came quite naturally and I  was given the position in August of 2000.  In 2008 I stepped away from the Executive Director position to pursue funds for the building expansion.  Kimberly became the Executive Director.  At this time I trained as a Life Celebrant.  Over the years  I have done many positions and for a year before COVID I had my dream job as Event Planner.  We were just getting rolling. My signature events were The Rummage Sale, Golden Gals Fashion Show, Fun Casino, Member's Memorial, Lifetime Tea, Remembrance Day,  The Vintage Fashion Shows, Celebrations of Life, Rentals, and Volunteer Appreciation. The staff and I loved going all out to Celebrate our Volunteers, it was always a all hands on deck affair.

Grateful for my Cohorts

SEESA Volunteers, we have appreciated every minute of the 700,000 hours of time you have given since 2000.  This is why Volunteer Appreciation is a sacred holiday at SEESA.  Over the years it has been fun trying to please your hearts of gold.

I miss too many of you to mention, however when it comes to my time at SEESA I would be remiss not to mention Gordon Block.  Gordie and I meshed as soon as we met and he hired me and stood by me with quiet support.  For 6 years we led the team together.
Leadership: Encouraging a group of which one is a member to get things done and at the same time maintain good relations within the group; organizing activities and seeing that they happen.  That’s Gordon!  Supportive, Reliable, Confident, Grass Roots.
To this day I see it….
Herb Johnson, Bill Lawrence, John Bannister, Walter Klepachek & Gordon Block sitting around the cafeteria table drinking coffee and dreaming up a building expansion.  A sight to see most mornings, a more practical & knowlegable committee a gal couldn't wish for. Only for adding Phyliss Johnson which we did.  In order to get her say in the plan, Susie kept the coffee flowing.  With Allan Thomas to manage the money, we had Charity of Choice donations from Herb gave a $60,000 legacy gift and memorial donations came on behalf of Bill and Walter.. The crown in the golden crown was Steve and Susie's eager friendliness and influence.  We had the base of an awesome team.  Mix in so many ambitious volunteers, SEESA donors, strong membership, supportive governments(all levels) and a friendly staff.  We had it all.

We have it all!

As the Fund Development Director on the Community for Life Committee and together with a bunch of wonderful volunteers and donors we raised 3.1 million dollars for a 5733 sq. foot expansion.  Clarke Builders completed our 3 phase renovation in September of 2010. First we added the Ottewell Room, Strathcona Room and Edmonton Room, first aide room(now the Fitness Centre) and a accessible bathroom.  Phase 2 was the expansion of the kitchen and cafeteria; they were both in the area of the kitchen until then.  Phase 3 was the offices and the parking lot.  The ground was broke in August 2009.  We started the Community for Life Campaign in 2008 and successfully obtained funds from 3 levels of government and many donors, mostly SEESA members.
