Her Life

Mary Lou Brower

May 13, 2011

Long time resident of Vallejo, California, Mary Lou Brower passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 13, 2011. Mary Lou was born in Manhattan, New York on December 18, 1935.  Her youth was spent moving throughout New England with her family including her identical twin sister, Betty Lee.  Always eager to prove herself, she earned her pilot's license in her early 20's while paying for the lessons with her hard earned money from waitressing at Howard Johnson's in Barre, Vemont.  After graduating from the University of Vermont, she found her future husband at Syracuse Graduate School. Ed and Mary Lou moved to Lompoc, California in 1963 where she continued her career in teaching.  She was active for many years in the League of Women Voters and was a proud teacher's union member as well, since moving to Vallejo in the late 1960's.  A few of her favorite hobbies were bowling, photography, coin and stamp collecting, and painting. Mary Lou was a prodigious reader and she enjoyed discussions on history, politics, and geography. She made the best veal parmesan known to mankind. She was the team mom in Vallejo High wrestling, score keeper in the North Vallejo Little League, and an assistant in Girl Scouts. Later in her career she home schooled students and was known to provide her students with needed supplies, food, whatever was needed.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 48 years Ed Brower; daughter Tracy Powers; sons Robert Brower, Gary Brower, and Greg Brower & daughter-in-law Huai-en Tsai Brower; grandchildren Angela Moore & grandson-in-law Craig Moore, Robert Powers, Anastacia Powers, Ben Brower, Kailee Brower & Kendyl Brower; identical twin-sister & brother-in-law Betty Lee and Ed Simmons.  A private memorial service will be held in her honor.  She will be forever missed by those that knew her and grew up with her in Vallejo.
