BIOGRAPHY OF MAMA MARY NGUNUE NWONFOR Sept 18th 1946 – 4th May 2014

July 1, 2014

Mama Mary Ngunue Nwonfor popularly called Ma Mary was born in Mendankwe, North-West Region, on the 18th of September, 1946 to the family of Pa William Nwafor and Ma Mangie Martha Ngwi, both of blessed memory. She was the sixth of ten siblings – 8 girls and 2 boys. At the infant age, little Mary Ngunue Nwonfor, thanks to the vision of her parents, made her first steps into formal education by enrolling in the Native Authority School in Bali and was rewarded a few years later with a First School Leaving Certificate in 1958. After her primary education, late Ma Mary attended one of the highly rated and prestigious secondary schools in Cameroon, The Queen of the Holy Rosary College, Okoyong at the end of which she obtained pass grades in the General Certificate of Education, (GCE) Ordinary Level. Her brilliant performance at the GCE O’Level threw academic gates wide open for Ma Mary Nwonfor beginning with a very successful passage through CCAST Bambili and later through the Universities of London and Sheffield in the United Kingdom, where she studied accountancy. Professionally, she worked for the Cameroon International Bank for Industry and Commerce (BICIC) in Victoria (today’s Limbe) and after her studies in the United Kingdom, she returned to Cameroon to work as senior staff for the National Produce Marketing Board (NPMB/ONCPB) in Limbe and later on in the Head office in Douala until 1998 when she returned to the UK to join her daughter and grand children. While in the United Kingdom where Ma Mary lived until her sudden death on Sunday the 4th of May 2014 from a massive heart attack, she had an immeasurable attachment to her immediate family and the wider Cameroonian community through her effective and active presence in groups, especially the Mendankwe Group, the Cameroon North-West Cultural Association (CNWCA-UK), and the Okoyong Past Students Association (OPSAN-UK). She had motherly counsel and was a true mother-figure in the real sense of the word, for everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Mami Mary Ngunue Nwonfor leaves behind, three sisters, a daughter and two grand children, cousins, nephews and nieces, and the wider Cameroonian Community both at home and in the UK to mourn her death.

MAY HER SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE
