We are heartbroken to announce the passing of
Mathew Scott
Horrigan, age 52, on Jan. 31st, 2021.
Born Nov. 17th, 1968 in Sacramento, CA. Mat grew up in Davis and graduated with a
degree in Environmental Toxicology from UC Davis. He was a member of the Sigma
Nu fraternity where he made many lifelong friends.
Growing up Mat was an excellent athlete and played multiple
sports. His love of and talent in sports was passed on to his children, Graham
and Paige. His favorite pastime was watching his kids play and cheering them
on. His greatest joy was being a father to Graham and Paige and seeing them
grow up.
He was best friend and loving husband to his wife Karen,
whom he met at UC Davis when they were 19 and 21. Their marriage was full of so
many fun memories with travels, kids, friends and family.
Everyone who met Mat will remember his warm smile and hearty
laugh. Mat’s sense of humor and fun-loving personality made people want to be
around him. His nickname by many friends was “Smiley”.
Mat was also dedicated to his career, recently celebrating
his 10-year anniversary with TetraTech where he was a Principal
Environmental Risk Assessor. Mat made many close friendships with his colleagues
and enjoyed the intellectual challenges his work provided him.
He is survived by his wife Karen, son Graham (19), daughter
Paige (16), father and stepmother Bruce and Robyn Horrigan, sister and stepbrother
Sue Schley and Chris Villanueva and in-laws Pat and Lee Cogan, Kristen and
Peter Brooks. We are saddened by the loss of a loyal friend, husband and father
but will carry him with us in our hearts every day.
We would like to have a celebration of life with all his
friends present, so we have chosen to wait until Covid restrictions will allow.
Details will follow.
The Horrigan Family is forever grateful for the support of
family, friends and the community.
His daughter Paige has set up a fundraiser in her Dad’s
honor for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (who also supports Multiple
Myeloma) for those who wish and are able to donate.
