his Life
Mathis Jones Jr. was born October 31, 1932 in  Coffee Springs, Alabama to Mathis Jones and Dora Flowers Jones. He was born of six siblings born to the couple. His siblings, Edloe, Freddie Lee, Theodore, Lonza, and Nellie; all preceded him in death. The family lived in Caryville, Florida, where Mathis and his six siblings grew up.

    After his early education and several odd jobs, Mathis joined the U.S. Army in February, 1953. He was honorably discharged in January, 1955. Eventually, he settled in Los Angeles, California and worked as a truck driver for Alpert and Alpert until his retirement.

     On September 21, 1963, Mathis married the former Dorthy Mae Stewart at Los Angeles, California. They shared forty-eight years of marriage before Dorothy’s passing in 2011. Even though no biological children developed from this union, a host of step children and step grandchildren resulted; most of which also preceded him in death. Step children remaining are Jimmy Ray Stewart of Los Angeles and Sam Stewart of Louisiana  and host of other step relatives.

      Mathis is survived by his next of kin;  nieces, Cynthia Edwards-Alarcon of Lancaster, CA; Elinda Edwards of Palmdale; Laurie Jones of Massachusetts; nephews; James Jones of Panama City, Florida and Freddie Lee Jones Jr of Ohio. Great nieces, Chantia Williams and Eewanya Williams of San Diego, California, and Danicia Haskins of Palmdale, California. Nephew, Timothy Haskins of Las Vegas, Nevada. Great great nieces include Tariq Haskins, Tiffany Haskins, Treasure Haskins, , , , , , DeJohn, Shamir, Clydie Duenas, Phonisha Pruitt, Shenequa Jefferson, Billy Ray Jefferson, Traivon Williams, Zarinah Jefferson-Alarcon and several great, great, great nieces and nephews: Jeremiah, Zakarah, Ja’nayah, Ayla, Phonisha, Je’Nyah, Andres, and Kailani.
