His Life

Brief History

December 14, 2011

Matthew T. Vujevich

Born in Globe, Arizona February 13, 1931.

He was the third child for Rose and Stephen Vujevich, joining siblings John and Eva. After the passing of his father when he was just seven, Matt and his family moved to Sacramento, CA where he would go on to attend Sacramento City College and letter in men's basketball in 1950 and 1951. In 1952, he played defensive back for San Jose State and also won the intramural heavy-weight boxing championship.

In 1952 Matt was also drafted in to the Army. He served two years active duty and then continued to serve in the Army Reserve until 1961. After his active duty tour was over, Matt returned to San Jose State to play once again under Coach Bronzan.

In 1955, Matt was drafted by the New York Giants and was fortunate to have played a few months under coaches Tom Landry and Vince Lombardi.

In July 1960, Matthew joined the San Jose Fire Department. Not too long after Matt and his wife Donna (Henry) welcomed their son, William Matthew Vujevich(Billy) in 1961 and in 1965, little sister Rebecca Lynn (Becky) came along.

After 33 years in the fire department, Matt retired to enjoy golfing, shopping Goodwill stores, watching the Horses Race and most of all spending time with his family. He loved the fire department but his greatest love was for his three grandchildren; Matthew 11, Raven 10 and Ashley 6. He was so proud to be called "Grampa"

Matt was the most kindest, loving man that anyone would meet. Our lives will forever be better because of him and forever by empty because of the loss of him.

Matthew T. Vujevich passed away December 11, 2011 at 5:00pm. His death was so unexpected. We miss him deeply. He was so full of life and had so much more life to enjoy. - The Vujevich Family
