Her Life

Obituary

May 21, 2020
Maude was born to the late Andrew and Evelyn Averette on November 8, 1930 in South Hill, Virginia. Maude was educated in the Philadelphia School System. She was employed as a seamstress at the Quartermasters and could “eyeball” any article of clothing and sew it without needing a pattern. Maude had many fine qualities and her expertise was beyond measure. Maude enjoyed playing Pinochle with her family and friends. She was a licensed Cosmetologist and owned a hair salon for many years in West Philadelphia. Maude dabbled in home improvement and her cooking skills were unmatched. She took great pride in preparing an infinite amount of gourmet meals. Her family fondly remembers her famous German Chocolate Cake, Chicken and Dumplings, Sour Cream Pound Cake, platted Chitterlings, barbecue sauce she prepared from scratch, etc.

Learning about Jehovah’s principles and bible teachings were instilled to Maude by her dear sister Virginia. Initially, Maude was opposed to hearing about bible truths but Virginia persisted. In time, Maude started attending Christian meetings and made the truth her own. She dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized on January 26, 1976. Virginia will be overjoyed to see her sister again knowing Maude developed an intense love for Jehovah and was faithful until the day of her passing. Maude entered full time service as a Regular Pioneer on September 1, 1985 and continued that privilege until her sudden death on April 25, 2020. Maude looked forward to the annual celebration of Jesus Christ’s death. She made it a personal goal to invite as many as possible to the Memorial. On one occasion, thirty persons of interest attended the Memorial as Maude’s guests and filled two rows at the Kingdom Hall. Throughout her years of evangelizing, Maude was instrumental in assisting many to publicly symbolize their dedication to Jehovah God.

Maude is survived by her husband Ernest Jennings. Sadly, Maude’s son’s Gregory, Sr. and Ray Rogers preceded her in death as well as her grandsons Andrew and Victor Rogers.
