To the Family of Coz Mac:

" When the heart grieves for what it has lost, soul rejoices for what it has found." (An old eastern saying). Our love ones are always with us. We do miss their physical presence, and in so doing we can continue to speak to them..when we think of them they are around us. Sometimes something takes place in our presence..thats them trying to communicate with us saying.."Its Me". May the Blessings Be. Coz, Ebue

My Dear Uncle Mac,

How can it be that you are gone and are no longer with us? Are you and Patty having a drink in heaven? Are you sitting with she and gran telling all the gossip and telling them about David’s beautiful boy? Oh they loved you Uncle
Mac.

‘Aye man’ Uncle Mac, we are at a loss, a true loss. Uncle Mac you were an amazing Uncle. My childhood in NYC was amazing because of you and Cousin Vesu. Then in Connecticut you and Cousin Vesu became my guardians when I was in college. So many things to reflect on and so much joy and love you gave our family.

To Aunty Sylvia, Cousin Vesu ( Gerri), David, Jason and the larger family I am so sorry for our loss.

Uncle Mac impacted our family in so many ways and remained a strong member even after life moved on. I am grateful that we had a chance to know him and be loved by him.

I love you Uncle Mac ,

Dear Sylvia,
With great aloha, thank you. Thank you for your devotion to your brother. As a church usher, I was encouraged by your brother’s devotion. He was faithful in attendance, brought his personal prayer book/Bible and was always dressed for the occasion. Mr. McCoy will be long remembered at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Honolulu as a gentleman who quietly shared his light. With love, your NYC and Honolulu friend - Susan

I had the very deep privilege to serve Mr Pope as his Chaplain in the last beautiful days of his life. I can only say that reading these tributes makes me feel that I wish I knew him longer.

I pray for all who knew and loved him... that the memories will never ever fade and we shall all continue to see his smile.

God bless us all.

Uncle Mac, what a great life you led, you will always be a hero of mine, even though you were Air Force MP, I will not hold this against you, (army is the best haha!) as your people provided the transport for us paratroopers to operate, and jump from.... however we never trusted your lot to land, so we always bailed out during the voyage.
The world is void of a chivalrous, charismatic gentlemen, I am honoured to have known you Uncle, I will miss you.
You enlightened the world and brought the love!

Dear Sylvia,

It is with the deepest of sympathy and with much sadness that Sam and I received the news of Mac's passing. Thank you for doing such an outstanding job of keeping us posted with regards to Mac's status.

We are terribly sorry for your loss and can only imagine how difficult things must be for you at this time. Please know our prayers were with you and Mac when he was called "home." We will continue to offer up timbers on your behalf and ask that you please let the rest of your family know how much we care and share in your grief.

Mac was such a kind, loving, caring, funny, smart, dependable, creative, and adventurous soul. From day one--when we moved onto Starr Street in New London--he became part of our "family" in Connecticut. Without a doubt, our lives are certainly all the richer for having shared countless memorable moments with him. We often called Mac when it was after midnight in the U.S. just so we could catch him before he headed out for a day filled with volunteering, serving as a quasi-tour guide, or visits to his favorite spots in town before the horrendous Honolulu traffic began. One year, he sent us a beautiful teakwood salad set for a wedding anniversary gift that will continue to remind us of him every time we use it. We shall also recall with great fondness the hundreds of little yellow, rubber duckies he had stored in the basement of our home (which he needed for an annual river race in Norwich sponsored by local chapters of Kiwanis). A proud father, amazing U.S. Air Force vet, and a probing questioner in many a meeting, we will always appreciate Mac’s love for life and caring for others. Oh, and let us not forget his RED Kiwanis blazer of which he was extremely proud!

Be strong. Remember, tough times never last but tough people do! May God keep you in his unending care now and in the days ahead.

Love,

Evelyn and Sam

I am honored to have known Mac. I met him while out dancing at the Wailana in Waikiki, and we continued to have fun dancing at Nashville and the Ilikai. A bunch of us dancing King’s and Queen’s would meet up every chance we got to enjoy life and friendship. We had so much fun. I will always remember Mac with his cuteness of a grin, his hat and his smooth dance moves. He was a nice man that loved his music and to dance. May God Bless Mac and may he Rest in Peace and Love. I will miss him

McCoy Pope -- Mac as affectionally known, earned his wings and joined the righteous in eternity. However his legacies are reflected in all he touched and will serve us in so many ways, His beautiful voice in singing church hymns was always uplifting when standing standing next to him. His stories, published in "The Favorites of the Sun" demonstrated his knowledge of worldly places, his multi-languages, and reckoning with many cultures. He was a scholar.

Mac was a fine father to Jason and David, daughter-in-law Erika. Oh how he desperately wanted a grandchild! My grandchildren loved "Mr. Mac" and often queried about his coming to visit. When Tyler McCoy Pope arrived, I'm sure the buttons on Mac's shirt flew off with the burst of pride.

Remembering travels, dancing, introducing friends, dancing, wine at local bars, dancing, his longs walks with intension, slowing down for a slow walker . . .

All is well, all is well with his soul,  Grace

All is wel

My beloved brother, McCoy, passed away peacefully on New Years day at 10:55 AM. He had been under hospice care for advanced dementia and for his last days was on oxygen with morphine given to relieve pain and his breathing difficulty,
His battle with dementia is finally done. May his soul rest in fully deserved peace.
He was loved by everyone for his constant smile and pleasant personality.

McCoy Pope was my dad. He was also a great mind, a leader, an officer and a gentleman, a writer, a soldier, a kind spirit, and a very funny guy. My dad passed away this New Years Day on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. He loved to travel, make people laugh, enjoy good food with an ice cold beer and most of all he loved all of us.  He was a gentle-giant... He will be remembered as he was loved and respected by family, friends, and colleagues spanning 3 different continents.  I was blessed to have had soooo many great memories / spent soooo much time with him over the years. He taught me allot during our time and my son will know all about him. I miss him already....

Mac was my friend and a leader. He created new paths for NARFE, taking the initiative by setting up stands, givng out literature and proclaiming the values of joining NARFE at the meetings of many prominent organizations. As Vice President of NARFE's Waikiki Chapter, his comments and advise contributed significantly to our meetings. I was lucky to have known him. Godspeed, Mac.

I remember the first time I met Mac. He came up to me and asked me to dance. We were at Rumors night club. We both loved to dance, and even though he knew that I was married and he had a girlfriend we just enjoyed dancing. We ended up being friends and I met his girlfriend and he met my husband. At the time I met Mac, I lived on the Big Island. Mac and his lady friend (as he respectfully referred to her) came to visit us on the Big Island. We had a wonderful time. A few years later, 2018, we lost our home on the Big Island from the volcanic eruption. When Mac
heard about it and knew that we were coming back to Honolulu, he and Sylvia invited us to the Wailana, where they had announced to friends there at the club what happened to us. We were warmly welcomed and everyone was so kind.

Mac was an author and was involved in helping organizations. He always one to give gifts and Lei's. He greeted everyone with a smile. He was a loving kind man. He is the reason that I met Sylvia and now we are friends and I love her dearly as I love him. He will certainly be missed. I will always have a place in my heart for Mac.
