Her Life

After God's Own Heart

January 20, 2013

Meko loved the Lord and she served even in the hospital she spread the good news of God! Pastor Chris Carter not only was her pastor, but a brother, a true friend. She'd tell me, "Pastor Carter so and so and he don't know huh NeNe!"  I'd say yep, we're Marguerite Bailey's daughters lol! The zeal she had for God and the love she bestowed upon others is more than amazing. She had so many ministries I can't begin to name them all nor fill those shoes!. I know for certain she found great pleasure in her Wedding and Event coordinating. Meko was a romantic who loved a love story. Much like her love for God one of the greatest love stories. Meko gave her life to God one day long ago, God gave her wondrous life..a heart of gold..she was a woman after God's own heart.

Rocky Road Pink Iced Gingerbread Man

January 15, 2013

We used to love 27th Street corner store 1300 block if I remember correctly. Mom always gave us change and grandpa Pops too, The days when penny candy was just that. One day Sharell, Meko, and I headed to the store 3 blocks straight ahead, It was safe back then we're skipping along happy holding hands pigtails flying. Meko is in the middle that's the way we crossed the street. We laugh at Jump Back Jack doing his routine outside. He was a permanet fixture outside the store.Brown paper sacks in hand we say in unicism "yes sir, we'll tell mom hello."  We stop at the corner and wait for the light to turn red and the cars to all stop all except Meko. She was excited skipping out the store and ran across too soon. She almost made it across and was knocked down by a car screeching to a halt. She was knocked down along with her Rocky Road pink iced gingerbread man. It was held tightly in her hand, two came in a pack. They were crushed. That's the main reason she was crying, being frightened was secondary she jumped up and took off running all the way home. The car following us..she was ok her Rocky Road wasn't. I'd let you have the whole pack if I could now, Meko instead of some just so I can see your smile! Miss you 'my Meko always!"

Childhood

January 15, 2013

We grew up in a home with a lot of love 6 kids, 4 girls and 2 boys. Meko being the 3rd eldest stood out from the bunch, she had that boom vavoom back then lol! Memories of 30th Street flood my mind those were the good old days, Sharell, Meko, and I jumped rope on the sidewalk and skipped down the street Felicia was too little and she cried boo hoo. We didn't let her play unless we were made to. She played with the Johnson's, Terry's and the Boston's, Marlene and Gia were her friends. We played dodgeball in the yard mom sometimes threw the ball too hard, :) We played mama's and daddy's, hula hoop, ran after Mr Frosty like little nuts, We had birthday parties and Easter egg hunts. She'd get pinched at Shalom Baptist by grandma for talking too much. She could style her dolls hair back then, dress them in the latest fashion from scraps she'd find. My mom is a seamstress there was always fabric around. Meko could dance like the girls on American Bandstand and whip that hair as she danced. Talk about stubborn I would try and whip her being bigger back there, didn't hurt her lol! She'd cry anyway I'm sorry Meko. I have so many wonderful memories. I smile when I think of you nowadays!
