Her Life
November 6, 2019
Melissa Deborah Boston was born on 08/13/1982 at Interfaith Hospital in Brooklyn, NY as the only child to the proud parents DesrieBoston and Joseph Harry.  Growing up, Melissa loved to read romance novels, dance and play dress up. When she grew up, she was uncertain of a career path, but she was sure that she wanted to help others.

She spent her early years as a diligent student who graduated from Wingate High School in 2000 located in Brooklyn, New York. Upon graduating from high school Melissa wanted to be a chef and a cosmetologist. Because of her desire to bring out the best in others, she decided to pursue cosmetology.  Melissa obtained her cosmetologist license from L.I.B.S (Learning Institute Beauty School) in 2001. After that time, she spent nearly a decade working at various beauty salons in Brooklyn, NY.  Melissa eventually went on to work at Macy’s Herald Square fragrance department in 2010. With her feet in the door, she was determined to climb the ladder and landed her dream job at Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) at Macy's, New York, NY as a Makeup Consultant in 2013. Additionally, Melissa would also provide hair and makeup services to close family and friends.

Melissa's work was admired by others because she had a sharp eye for design, modern trends and was very fashion-forward.  In addition to being stunning and all about beauty, Melissa had a heart of gold and a heart for people.  She would spend countless hours providing hair care tips, makeup tutorials, cutting hair, dying hair, adding hair, and making fashion recommendations to friends, family, and even strangers.  When she was not making others look better, she would make them feel better, providing relationship and life advice from the many lessons that she learned.

In addition to being a Brooklyn fashionista, make-up artist, and cosmetologist Melissa was also a talented chef. For every holiday and family gathering, she would prepare her special Caribbean dishes (chowmien, oxtails, Guyanese Fried Rice, etc.) which everyone looked forward to tasting. While she did not pursue cooking as a career path, she was known as the family chef.

Amongst her many gifts and creative talents, Melissa would always say that her greatest accomplishment was being a mother to her two sons, Tyreke and Darrian. Melissa ensured she sheltered them and showered them with motherly love. There wasn’t a day that went by when she did not provide them with her loving hugs, support and motherly advice. Melissa's only desire for them was to see that theysucceed in life and to know that she loved them with all her heart.

Melissa was able to mold into the person she was due to her loving mother, Desrie Boston. Most people may not know but Melissa’s true best friend was her mother who provided her with unconditional love. They often had their kitchen talks, where Melissa would provide her mother with updates on her life and Ms. Boston shared her unbiased opinions which Melissadidn’t always agree with but cherished.

Melissa gave her time, energy, passion and inspiration to those around her.  She was a mother, daughter, friend, cousin, niece, and granddaughter, but most importantly she was loved.  This love showed in her actions, even in her final years, often forcing close family and friends to get together, planning birthday parties, hosting baby showers and showing love and a positive attitude. Melissa, you have changed all of our lives for the better.

Melissa is survived by her loving Mother Desrie Boston, two sons (Tyreke and Darrian).
