Melvin James Sommer, 64, a resident of Creedmoor, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Veteran Medical Hospital in Durham, NC.

A native of Wayne County, Michigan, the son of Mary O’Neil Sommer Wootton.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith.  He was retired from the trucking business.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Butner by Rev. Lenny Rogers.  Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Seymour Sommer of the home, his mother, Mary Wootton of Royal Oak, Michigan, a daughter, Anissa S. DeBlieux of Bastrop, Louisanna, two sons, Aaron Sommer of Phoenix, Arizonia, Andrew Sommer of Jasper, Georgia, a step-son, Dennis Bell of Warren, Michigan, two sisters, Shelley Sullivan of Delton, Michigan, Laura Roscoe of Shelby Township, Michigan, two brothers, Mike Sommer of LaGrange, Indiana and Mark Sommer of Creedmoor and ten grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 12:30 – 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 16, 2011 prior to the memorial service at the First Baptist Church in Butner.
