Mercy Mofeade Ademodi’s Biography Summary

Mercy Mofeade Ademodi was born to Late Mrs Marian Aina Adetoye (née Akinribido) and Late Prince Adetoye (of Ondo Kingdom Royal linage) on June 20th 1928 in Ondo city Nigeria. She spent her childhood in the Adetoye family house at Oke Dibo,Ondo. Mercy was the youngest of 13  children born to Prince Adetoye, and also the youngest of Marian’s three girls. Her two maternal sisters were Late Mrs Adepeju Akindoju (the oldest of Marian’s girls) and Late Mrs Adembipo Ajayi (Marian’s the second born). Mercy also had ten half brothers and sisters by Prince Adetoye.

Prince Adetoye passed away when young Mercy was only 11 years old.  Her Mother remarried several years later, and she moved with her girls to her new husband’s  home at Loro (idim Loro) street in Ondo. In her teenage years, wanting to fulfill her dream to become a teacher, Mercy travelled to Eastern Nigeria to attend secondary school at St Monicas Girls Boarding School Onitsha. She learned how to fluently speak the Igbo language during her schooling in Onitsha. 

In 1954, Mercy met the then Mr. B.A Ademodi, who was at the crepes of Developing The Ondo Teacher Training College after coming back to Ondo from his studies in England. She studied and earned her Grade 1 teachers diploma. Thereafter, she married Mr. B.A. Ademodi and. gave birth to her first child, Iwalola in thereafter, while she continued to work as a teacher. She gave birth to her second child Oluwafunmilayo a few years later.   Mercy embarked on studying for her Grade 2 teacher certificate at Government Teacher Training college in Ilesha. in 1959. She had to leave Iwalola and Funmilayo with her mother Marian Aina at Loro (idim Loro) while she was in boarding school in Ilesha. She got her Grade 2 Teachers diploma in 1961. She came back to Ondo, living at Yaba, Ondo( Late Mr Falodun’s home). She continued her teaching career at Oke Segun Christ Apostolic Church primary school were she quickly rose to the position of a Headmistress. She served as Headmistress at various school levels in Ondo township area for over 35 years.

God blessed Mercy with five additional children as she continued to combine motherhood with her career as a teacher. She became teacher of teachers along the way as she mentored other teachers. Mercy suffered the loss of her fourth child,  a toddler son, named Agbolola. She also suffered the miscarriage of twin boys thereafter. She gave birth to her second daughter Olubukola  a few years later. She had another son, Victor Oluwasijibomi. and last but not the least, she gave birth to her youngest child  Ooreoluwa to conclude her child bearing years .

Mercy was a mother to many who were not her biological children, she brought nephews and nieces into her home to raise them as her own. After her retirement as a teacher, she regularly brought neighborhood children into her home to give them after school lessons, taught them various subjects and fed them.

The most important part of Mercy’s life was her relationship with Jesus Christ. Once Mercy accepted Jesus into her life, she was unstoppable in her ministry to bring souls to Christ, more importantly to intercede for anyone, tarrying in fervent prayers. Mercy was one of the founding members of the Redeemed Church In Ondo. Mercy was ordained as an Assistant Pastor in the Redeemed Church in 1986 by the General overseer, Pastor Adeboye.  She loved to worship God and she loved to sing from her heart with her hands raised up high. She influenced ALL her children to love the Lord.

Some of her favorite sayings were: “I cover you with the blood of Jesus Christ”, “It is well”, Jesus is Lord”, “Remember God loves you” and “I love you”.

Mercy Mofeade Ademodi’s was a life well lived, therefore we give ALL the glory and adoration to The Tru Living God that Mercy loved and worshiped so dearly.
