SO. OGDEN - Merle Gene Randall age 73 officially “retired” on January 23rd, 2003. He passed away in the home he built, just as he wanted. He was born in Salida, CO to Charles Henry Randall and Birdreth A. Gibboney. Gene was the youngest of seven children, he had four sisters, and two brothers.

On August 12, 1949 he married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Reeves. Together they raised seven children, two daughters, and five sons.

In 1954 Gene established M.G. Randall & Sons where he worked as a paint contractor for many years. He then established Ranco Rental in 1968, and under his direction the business thrived. After retiring in 1999 he sold the business to Hertz Equipment Rental.

Finding retirement boring, Gene formed a partnership with his sons and established Randall Peak Corporation. One of his wishes was to open a pawn shop and that goal will be realized this February with Advantage Pawn and Rental, in West Haven.

Gene was a member of the LDS church and was active in the South Ogden 7th Ward. He was an avid golfer, and was proud to have hit a hole in one. Gene also had a love for bowling, in 1992 he was inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame for the Ogden Bowlers Association. He also previously served as the President of the Men(TM)s Ogden Bowling Association.

Gene had a great love for life, his greatest love was his family. He always had time to give his grandchildren rides on his “Jazzy” electric wheel chair. His phone line was always busy, you could always find Gene making a deal or helping a friend. When Gene wasn(TM)t on the phone you could find him in Wendover or Las Vegas, his home away from home. He loved to play the craps and “21” tables, he considered himself a high roller.

Gene is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Ruth Ann Reeves Randall of South Ogden; his children, Mark C. (Pam) Randall, So. Ogden; Lorie J. (Terry Marcus) Randall, Riverdale; Michael J. (Sylvia) Randall, Ogden; Jeff L. (Kris) Randall, Spokane, WA; Russell W.(Vicki) James, Hooper; Bonnie A. (Bart) Keller, So. Ogden, Kevin S. (Deanna) Randall, Ogden; Kelly R. (Tiffany) Randall, So. Ogden; 41 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way. Also surviving are one brother, Marvin (Ellen) Randall, Ogden; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, and four sisters; and one grandson Chad T. Johnston.

In lieu of flowers Gene requests donations be made to the American Lung Association. - See more at:
