Sending you a huge hug and continued prayers for those loved ones you had to leave behind.
Michael A. Block, age 60, passed away in his home in Montgomery, Texas on Thursday, September 7, 2017, surrounded by members of his beloved family. He was born in Michigan City, Indiana on September 12, 1956 to Richard and Shirley (Hanna) Block. Mike grew up in Morocco, Indiana and was the first of three boys. He went on to marry the love of his life, Peggy (Bruno) of Cincinnati, Ohio in 1981. They were blessed with one son, Nicholas, born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1986.
With his joviality and positivity, forming lasting friendships came easily to Mike; and his work travels allowed him to find them everywhere. The crinkle of his eyes when he laughed became permanently etched as a reminder of a life well-lived.
Through his hard work and dedication, he made a name for himself as a Materials Control Manager which earned him job opportunities that spanned continents. His career began at Comanche Peak in Glenrose, Texas; and eventually took him to Haiti for two years with Brown & Root (later KBR). Not long after, he and his family relocated to Kaposvár, Hungary for seven years. He immersed himself in the culture there and enjoyed extensive travel across Europe with his family. They returned to the United States, living briefly in Northern Virginia followed by Conroe and finally Montgomery, Texas while working for CB&I.
Despite his love for his work, he also made plenty of time to play. His many pastimes include grilling, drinking craft beer and fine wine, going to rock concerts, and giving everyone (especially his wife!) a good ribbing from time to time. He also enjoyed football, hockey, and baseball (go Rangers!). He was an active member of his church, and his community at Bonterra. His optimism and zest for life were never dimmed as he valiantly fought the cancer that eventually claimed him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; son, Nicholas (Katherine); father, Richard; brothers, Joseph and Jason (Melissa); and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley. His remembrance mass followed by a celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 16, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 8227 CR205, Plantersville. The family requests donations to be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers.
