On a trip to the United States in 2012 I had the pleasure of meeting you for the very first time cousin Michael. There was an instant connection. You looked so much like my father and I remember you commented on how much l looked like your mother. It was so lovely just to chat and catch up on the years and you were so genuine and easy to talk to. In recent years I have enjoyed following your humorous posts on Facebook and the photos where you appeared to be living life to the full and looked every inch the proud father and grandfather. You seemed proud of your NewZealand roots too as I saw photos of you displaying the silver fern on your tee-shirt and wearing All Blacks clothing. Farewell from your family in NewZealand Michael. You will be missed dear cousin.

His Life

Chapter 1

May 28, 2021
Michael was the son of Frank and Nora Batty, and the step-son of Joe Hoppel.  He is survived by his two children, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren.

From Auckland, New Zealand to northern New Jersey/New York, to the west coast of Florida.  Michael enjoyed a life filled with the things he loved.  Friends, family, golf, sailing, his Irish heritage, good times and a good (and occasionally a unique, but maybe not so good) drink.

He was active in the NJ Ironbound Irish Association and the Nutley Irish American Association for most of his life.  Michael loved to travel and did so extensively, although he never got the chance to get back to New Zealand as he had hoped.

Rather than tell everyone our view of his life, we would rather hear stories from those who loved him.
