Michael Allen Price, 69, passed after a ten-year struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and subsequent heart problems on June 5, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born on April 18, 1947, at Doctor's Hospital, Shawnee, OK to Jack Duane and Loretta Chaney Price.

Outside of his parents’ home, his childhood was spent in the company of his paternal grandparents Vernetta and Allen Price, his maternal grandparents Esther and Herman Chaney, his great-aunt Maybelle Lyon Blaine, his uncle William Blaine Price, and his maternal aunt and uncle, Lonnie and Dick McDougle. Although he was an only child, he and his cousins Paula, Dane, Pam, Judi and Blaine were like siblings.

When not at the movie theaters watching sci-fi films, he was at Blaine's Fashion Shop. Whether sleeping under the clothing racks, posting Oklahoma football scores from the radio, or being doted on by the ladies of Shawnee he was a regular fixture on Main Street. Mike loved to play golf like his uncles, baseball like his father, and draw like his mother. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of any and every topic, and never said anything he didn't know to be true. He excelled in everything he took an interest in.

Mike attended Bethel Acres Elementary. He graduated as Student Council President of the class of 1965 at Shawnee High School. Following in the footsteps of his uncle Donald Allen Price, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a professional degree in architecture and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Mike’s career as an architect began under the tutelage of his uncle, Don at Price Group Architects. Both of the homes Mike designed in Norman for his family have been featured on architectural tours. An interview with Mike and his uncle Don was featured in a documentary film on architect Bruce Goff by Britni Harris.

His first marriage was to Linda Jean Rice of Norman, OK. His son, Justin R was born in 1975, followed by Mathew Lyon in 1982. He especially enjoyed their yearly family vacations to places like Yellowstone and Glacier National Park in Canada. He had a particular fondness for the mountains and the outdoors.

Mike received a W. K. Kellogg Foundation fellowship with which he earned his Ph.D. in Adult Education, also from OU. As part of his dissertation, he helped create the Continuing Education System for The American Institute of Architects. After serving as national Director of Professional Practice for the AIA, Mike assumed the position of Director of Continuing Education for the Project Management Institute. In that capacity, he worked in over 27 countries. In 2002, Mike received the Friendship Award from the State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs in the P.R.C., for his work with Chinese universities.

In 2003, Mike married Mary Catherine McDonald of Washington D.C., an architect, in Taos, NM.

Mike will be remembered most for his creative mind, humble nature, wry wit, and his ability to tell a story. Despite his accomplishments, Mike always remembered his Oklahoma roots. People said “you can take Mike out of Oklahoma, but you can’t take the Oklahoma out of Mike.”

His family is thankful to Integris Hospital, Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Center for his care as well as a lung transplant in 2013, allowing three more precious years with him. Mike’s body will be studied by students through OU Health Sciences Center College of Medicine during the fall semester. A memorial service will be held at Resthaven Cemetery in Shawnee on April 18, 2017 at 12 noon. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his sons, Justin and Mat, and his grandchildren Tristan, Jack and Moira.
