Michael Dean Stephenson

 

Michael Dean Stephenson,  Richmond, Texas died peacefully in San Antonio Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013 age 68 with family at his bedside ending a seven year battle with cancer. Mike was born in Houston, Texas April 3, 1944.  He is predeceased by his parents Ruby and Frank Stephenson and step father Eddie Thrapp. Mike is survived by son Michael J. Stephenson and his wife Alicia, granddaughters Shelsea and Savannah, great-granddaughter Scarlett, Richmond, Texas; his daughter Jennifer Cohn and husband Dr. Hal Cohn, granddaughter Jules, Denver, Colorado; Jessica Hutzell and husband Lt. Col. Jay Hutzell, grandsons Sam and Collin of Annapolis, Maryland; brother Patrick Stephenson, New Ulm, Texas; brother Danny Thrapp, Del Rio, Texas; sister Molly Huls and husband Ron, San Antonio, Texas; sister Trudy Ashworth and husband Monroe, New Ulm, Texas.

 

Mike graduated from Holy Ghost Catholic School, attended St. Thomas School and graduated from Lee Senior High School in Houston. He was educated at Sam Houston State University. Mike was a brilliant mind who was able to create and manage successful businesses in the Houston area. Mike’s quick wit and sense of humor will be forever remembered by his friends and family. Always a joke teller, Mike had a gift of making people smile. He was a bright light amongst us and his presence in our lives will be missed everyday. He leaves a hole the size of Texas in our hearts. The family will be forever grateful for the endless devotion of Molly and Ron Huls who opened their home to Mike and his hospice team, and showed us the true meaning of sibling love.

 

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 4445 FM 359 N. Pattison, Texas 77466, Rev. David DuBois celebrating; Honorary pallbearers are Rusty McCauley, Michael J. Stephenson, Patrick Stephenson, Wayne Bland, Monroe Ashworth, David Stromatt, Danny Thrapp and Ron Huls.
