ForeverMissed

There aren't many chances in life to know a great person.  Mike Merico was truly a great person.  He loved his life, his family, and his friends.  He appreciated everything that he was blessed with.  He appreciated life.  On November 2, 2009, kidney cancer decided that it was time for that physical life to end but through his memory he will live forever as long as we continue to smile and laugh as we think of him.

I've known your Dad for years and worked with him at Starvaggi's! What a great Man, Father and Friend! He loved his kid's Mandy and Michael so very much! I used to call him the Great White Hunter! Oh the hunting stories he told! He is sorely missed by all that knew him and will never be forgotten! May He Rest In Peace! Love and Miss Him, Renee Mallicone

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there,
I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glint on snow,
...I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet
birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night..."
I love you Dad.

Today I saw one of my dad's friends and he said, "I miss your dad. I was thinking about the other day. I was out the Sportsman's Club. He always did the trout stocking out there. He'd give me a heads up a day early and let me take my son fishing early." That's just the kind of guy my dad was. He always tried to do nice things for other people, especially when it involved kids.

Everyone loves this picture.  I hate this picture.  I hate this picture because I remember how I felt when I took it.  I was snapping pictures left and right on Father's Day.  When I took this one, my dad originally wasn't looking and as soon as the camera went to focus, he looked.  There was an eerie moment of stillness after the picture was taken.  Something didn't feel right.  I think I knew it was going to be the last good day of our life together.

This picture is on my dresser.  It is my favorite.  There were so many times when he was sick and I'd leave over to kiss him goodbye and think of this picture.

The Best Moment of my Prom

February 20, 2011

On the day of my prom, my dad got stuck working over.  Usually I didn't worry about what time he'd be home from work but on this day, I couldn't wait for him to see me all dressed up..  While I was doing my make up, he called and said he wouldn't be home before I left to take pictures with my dad so he'd meet me at the high school.  After lots of pictures and a limo ride, we finally made it to Weir High.  I looked around for my family but the gym was packed.  We all had to line up to make our grand entrance into the gym and down the paper runway.  Through the gym we went and out the back doors.  When I got out there, my dad was standing out there.  He was crying and he hugged me.  He said, " You look so pretty.  I wish my mom could see you."  I think that was really the moment where I realized how much my dad loved me.

I think about that day almost every day of my life.
