My beautiful friend

January 1, 2020
I met Michelle at the Bon Marche', I was in HR and she was in sales. I was receiving calls from the department manager reporting that Michelle wasn't wearing hosiery (nylons) and I needed to tell her to put some on. After so many calls, floor visits, and so many laughs, well, that was the start of our friendship. One of our many funny moments were when I would pick her up and we would go to lunch, she was always in a skirt and heels and so elegant and feminine, I was always in a ball cap and jeans and we would always laugh when people would assume we were a couple. Oh my gosh we laughed so much over the years, I miss her so much.

Sitting Outside the Courtyard

May 31, 2019

I first met Michelle when she lived in Seattle. We had mutual friends and worked together for a short time at the Bon Marche. But, I feel I really got to know the real Michelle when I visited her in Nepal several times. She was destined to be at the Courtyard Hotel and made it the wonderful, unique place it was. Michelle managed every last detail of each and every guest staying there and made everyone feel at home. It was like no other experience I have ever had traveling the world.  She literally had friends with people from every corner of the globe

Whenever I think of Michelle, I envision her curled up with her laptop, sitting outside the Courtyard with a cup of tea, looking up at you with an infectious smile and her beautiful eyes framed by her bangs and always wrapped in a warm pashmina—oh, and Tibby by her side!
True friendships were made in the candle-lit library, with wine glasses full, stories and laughter being shared and the elephant herd getting larger by the day. A hug and a beautiful smile was always handed out nightly by Michelle.
Michelle your beautiful spirit and soul always be felt and always be missed. Love you my friend.

To Michelle - Until Next Time

I never wanted to go to Kathmandu

Why would I go
It was there but so what
And then I went
And there you were
Radiant
Shining In dark corners
And there I was
Broken
You saw the cracks
And filled them with strength
You made me stronger than before
My Michelle
My Kathmandu
Nine trips just to see you
Your welcomes were legendary
Old yellow Mercedes
Tibby in the backseat
Wind flying through your hair
Accepted me as I was
You were my home away from home
Head thrown back, laughing in the night
Thamel House, crushing clay cups
Reading books in the Garden of Dreams
Every day an adventure
I’ll see you again for champagne in the Library
We’ll stay up all night
Battle-scarred but hopeful for the dawn.
