Robert Michael (Mike) Rome passed away... it is hard to even type these words.  Kind, giving, loving, unselfish... always ready to laugh, tell a story or listen to yours, Mike was one of the good people in the world. He celebrated life and family every day.

Family to him was his biggest priority.  But family did not just include his wife Gina, his mom and dad (Bob and Cindy) or his brother Britain's family.  Once he met you, you were part of his family.  He would ask about how your life was going, call to see if he could help in any way, or try to plan a "reunion" just because he realized how precious life was and how it was important that "family" stay in touch and together.

We have created this page as a place for you, his family, to share thoughts, messages and pictures with other "family members".  Please leave words, photos or whatever wish as a tribute.  It will be read and cherished by all of us who love Michael and miss him so much.

We have placed his official obituary that was published by his wife Gina on the next tab on this site titled: LIFE

On March 30th, 2019 we came together to remember you and celebrate your life.  Family, friends and neighbors.  We know you we there with us with your infectious laugh, warm smile and loving heart.  We miss you Mikey... see ya some day....

I would like to say thank you to all of our friends and family who came to celebrate Michael’s life. Thank you to each and every one of you. Your caring and loving support has been a blessing to me.  I cannot thank you enough.  God bless you all.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Mike. We were neighbors growing up. He was always very nice to me... talkative, would do anything for you. I was a little older than Mike and when my friends would come over, he wanted to be a part of the group. It didn't always work out, but he was persistent. As I got older, I recognized that he was a much better man than I ever was. I wish I could have told him that in person.

I am deeply saddened to find out about Mike's passing this evening. I was actually hoping to see him next month when I'm in Northern California, and am heartbroken to know that can't happen now. We always had a good time bonding and swapping officiating stories at the Happy Bar back in the day. Even now I can close my eyes and hear his voice telling me stories. To Gina, his family and the rest of his friends, I am truly sorry for your, and our, loss. Rest in Peace my friend.

Wow, this is hard. As a musician who meets hundreds of people in any given month, Mike and Gina were two people I remembered by name instantly. Mike's passion for music and love of our band What The Funk! made all of us realize that we were doing a good thing. He and Gina always made me feel like more than just a guy in the band and we ALWAYS had some good laughs! I'm going to miss you my friend. We will dedicate a song to you at our next show. RIP Mike.

Mike, I remember the day you walked up to the major diamond at American River LL and said you wanted to umpire. You were always ready to step up and do a game even if you were not scheduled. I enjoyed working with you at many regular and All Star games. You were always wanting to get better at umpiring. Haven't seen you for a few years but you were always one of my favorite people. RIP brother.

hey mike, its your old umpiring buddy steve bon. i'm sorry that we lost touch with each other, i called your wife & touched base with her, we talked for quite awhile. i sorry to hear of your passing you will greatly be missed, but i know your in a better resting place,
i'm told your wife we had other plans & won;t be able to be at your closing service, but you will be always be remembered.
i will pray for you & will call you on occasion& reach out to you just to stay in touch,& say hi.

Ah February. Your promise of Spring coming, displayed with flowers budding, lambs gomboling, and a holiday for lovers. But, Winter's hand reminds us that it still bears a grip, with its frost, snow, & stealing away of breath. To all who loved him, may Spring comfort your hearts with its rays of sunshine. Mike lite up the room the minute he walked in. So many special memories watching baseball and having pizza at Straw Hat. Mike was a mentor to many of the kids who grew up playing baseball in Rosemont. Mike was a dear friend to Gary. There isn't a doubt in my mind that Gary was the first to great him when he arrived in Heaven. Dear Mikey,
I was sad to hear about your passing. I was finding myself wondering why it had been so long since I had seen you.
I will always remember your great laugh, sense of humor, loveable personality that you so unselfishly shared with all of us who had the privilege to spend time with you.
Back in the 90's when Lawrence and Larry were involved with Little League, in Rosemont, you brought so much fun & excitement to the game as our umpire and your enthusiasm with your "Sheeerike" when there was an out was copied by us all as we enjoyed your spirit. The kids loved you and so did the parents. The round table days, all the games are a very big part of my memories. Then when you and Gina became jewelry customers of mine I was able to share another side of you. You adored your wife and treated her well. I didn't see you much through these past 10 years or so, but your memory will live on with my family forever. I know you're another one of our guiding lights in heaven because that is where great spirits go. My hugs & Love to you, your family & Gina.

I remember the days of Mike working behind the plate at American River Little League in Rosemont.  He was a great umpire who interacted with all the players and had everyone smiling. Then I would see him at Round Table pizza with Gina and he still had that great smile and we had great conversations. Rest in Peace Mike!!

Mike, I met you my first day of 8th grade at Kennedy Jr High. New guy at school and had no friends. That day you made me your friend, showed me the school and introduced me to your friends that became mine. With out you my Jr High and High schools years would not have been as joyful and happy as they were.  Our Reno trip was a blast I just wish I would have stayed in contact. RIP Mikey

Robert Michael (Mike) Rome, Jr. was born February 22, 1962 and passed away February 9, 2019.  

Kind, giving, loving, unselfish; always ready to laugh, tell a story or listen to yours, Michael was one of the good people in the world.  He celebrated life and family every day.

Family to him was his biggest priority.  But family did not just include his wife, his mom and dad or his brother’s family.  Once he met you, you were part of his family.  He would ask about how your life was going, call to see if he could help in any way or try to plan a “reunion” just because he realized how precious life was and how it was important that “family” stay in touch and together.

Michael worked for UPS in West Sacramento for 40 years before retiring in December.  His friends there were an important part of his extended family.  He also worked for several years at TGIFriday’s and made many good friends there as well.

Michael devoted a lot of his time to the District 5 Little League and the Western Regional All Stars Tournaments.  He was a mentor and great influence in the lives of all the kids involved in the sports that he officiated for.  He will be greatly missed by the Little League Community that he devoted so much of his life to.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years (married in Kona, Hawaii), Georgina (Gina) Rome, his mom and dad, Robert Michael Rome, Sr. and Cynthia Lee Rome of Rancho Mirage, CA, his brother and sister-in-law, Britain Lee Rome and Trisha Rome and his nieces Alexa and Sydney Rome of Yorba Linda, CA.  Michael also leaves behind numerous dear cousins and other loved ones including his special friends Kevin and Suzanne LeVezu and Ralph and Shana Citarelli and family.  Your help to Michael’s family in this time of grief is greatly appreciated.  

Thank you to Dr. Alvin Sockolov and his staff for their care and friendship with Michael over the years.

Services are being held on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Catholic Mass at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, 1040 39thStreet in Sacramento.  Celebration of Life to follow at 3:00 p.m.  at the VFW Hall, 8990 Kruitof Way in Fair Oaks.

We all love and miss you so dearly Michael.  Aloha nui hou.

I’ll never forget the first time I met Mike and Gina. I was on my first date with Eric and we were at Seime’s, (miss him too), place along with Mike and Gina and John. I came in and everyone was gone, so I sat down at Seime’s drum set and starting playing. Well, in walks Mike and he says, “Great job on the drums, you have good rhyth”, and I started cracking up. He was always silly like that. Always smiling and always had something nice to say. I miss his smile and his laughter. God bless you Mike, we’ll see you soon. Say,”Hi” to Seime for me. Love you!

I may not have known you very long but I can say you were very caring and kind and probably the funniest person I know. I’ve had such the pleasure taking you and Gina to and from the airport. Listening to y’alls stories and your funny jokes. I’m sorry your life here on earth isn’t extended with Gina and your family. But God has a plan for everyone and I’m sure whatever it is you’ll do great! You have very loving parents and a wonderful beautiful wife and your brother and all the family that will truly miss you. But I have no doubt you made a mark on this world with your kindness and big heart. You will be truly missed.
