ForeverMissed

This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Mildred Garrett 89 years old , born on September 19, 1924 and passed away on November 10, 2013. She was a child of God, a wife for over 50 years, mother of 5, a grandmother to 6, a great grandmother to many and a role model to everyone she came in touch with. She loved the simple things in life. She was our little susie homemaker, always whipping up something in the kitchen. She was cared for very well the last few years of her life by the staff and caregivers at the facility of her choice. She was welcomed into heaven by her mother. Daddy, husband and 1 son, along with her siblings and many cousins, aunts, uncles. Her life and legacy meant so much to so many. The funeral home was welcomed from her family to her pastor to her nurse and caregivers. There are several things I will remember about her, but the one thing you could see at her funeral was she was remembered by everyone,  all walks of life. We will remember her forever. Please share a kind thought or memory of our sweet lady. A Mother, a Wife, a Nanny, a Granny.

It's 9 years but seems like a year ago. We think about you often, pray you're having a great time in heaven and love you endlessly, much like you did here on earth..loved endlessly. I love you to the moon and back and forever will.

Happy Birthday. I cant believe it's been 6 years since you got your angel wings. We love and miss you dearly. You always had a way of making us smile, laugh and at times cry; Joyful tears only though, fun times, tears, playing scrabble. I love you and miss you so much. Happy birthday Nanny my heart aches for you but my soul is happy for you. I pray you have a great birthday in heaven and keep watching over us. I love you to the moon and back and back again.

Her Life

A life well lived

September 19, 2019
Nanny married a U.S. Navy man, (Pawpaw-Floyd Garrett); a brother of ten. Little did they know then what a large family they were a part of and would make larger. Together, they had 5 children. Evelyn, Sharon, Jeff, Donald(deceased few days old), and Tim. She worked as a receptionist for a small truck company and became a member of Brentwood Baptist Church. As a small church then, Brentwood  Baptist began in the basement of the children's home. In the basement, you would find my grandmother (Nanny) and my mom (Sharon). There were 65 members then, Nanny was one of the 65 that helped start Brentwood Baptist Church.  She raised her children, worked and retired, serving her community as trustee for her Sunday school class.
She loved her family, the Lord, cooking, reading her paper and drinking her coffee.  She was a teacher in everything she did, whereas it be teach her children how to love and become mothers, or teaching her grandchildren(myself) the importance of her favorite shows that aired. The price is right at 10 a.m. and days of our lives at 2 p.m. with talk of the town in between.  She taught the bible, friendship, love and joy. She ministered to many from her phone calls to her being in a hospital bed, she made differences across the Country. Her and pawpaw were the foundation of a ministry her eldest daughter began; with every life touched by that ministry, Nannys hand was holding the hand of the ministers. Nanny loved getting her hair done, my mother made sure she continued that into her days at the facility to which she made new friends and changed lives. She had many friends, closest were her sister in laws, Odell & Lillian and long time church friends, Mrs. Helen and Mrs. Ozzie. She loved car rides around town, shopping at then Castners and Dillards. She loved cooking with family and traveling with her husband (pawpaw) In their camper. She leaves behind a large family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is missed deeply and loved more than words are able to describe.  She was our angel and in 2013 she received her wings and new zip code in heaven. Please share with us your stories of her life.

Nanny was my maternal grandmother my best friend, my heart
Nanny loved playing scrabble and loved       Christmas. I remember playing scrabble and she     would always laugh so hard she'd cry. Pawpaw played one time and beat the socks off of every one of us!  Those were some good times.
In her final days, there was confusion, alot of confusion.  She was not able to walk and had not been able to for quite some time. She would try to get out of bed saying that we had to get Jeff & Tim up for school(her sons that were grown men). There was one time in particular she was rambling then got very quiet and out of the blue said "Janice got married way to young" Janice is our cousin, her neice. We laughed so hard! I also drew a picture of Nanny and Pawpaw's wedding picture for her, gave it to her and oddly enough I made her cry with joy. Those special moments I will hold dear to me forever. I love you and miss you as much now as I did the day you got your new zip code and wings.
