You Are With Us Always

January 24, 2017

As I hold back tears, so many thoughts are dancing through my head... the echo of your voice resonates in my ears.

Nothing will take the place of your smile, your collard greens, your potato salad, the smell of your DKNY, the way you would keep it sassy when you walked, the way you loved on all of us, Thanksgiving dinners, the way you would check up on us in the kitchen when you thought we were taking a little bit too much from the pot on the stove... "up your nose and out again" is what you would tell Sean when he was out of line... the way you would ride Recee for that 10$ he owned you (smile), the way you loved on Daniel and Jordan and cared for them before they could even walk.... the way you kept everything clean in the house no matter how tired you were, the way you made sure we wore undershirts and hats well into our 20s and 30s (you think we would know better), your grace, your work as a nurse in ministry, your prayers  OH the MANY MANY prayers you prayed over your entire family, how you adored your baby sister Aunt Maxine and cared for her, the way you allowed my Mother and Aunt Maxine to care for you even though your pride and independence often got in the way, the fight in you!, your game shows and soap operas, how you nursed and took care of your peers and those older than yourself...

When I wash my hands in the pedestal sink you picked out, I think of you....  When I walk in the kitchen, I think of you, when I walk up and down those old wooden stairs, I think of you... When I open the door to the small middle bedroom where you slept, I can still smell you and sense your presence.  I could go on and on and on Mom Mom.  Not a day goes by that I don't think of you.   I love you dearly and look forward to the moment I see you again.

Love your granddaughter - Donna
