Went to Flaum on Friday...my eye was bothering me and I was nervous, but seeing your beautiful smiling face right by waiting room 4 brought me peace, as it always does. Its the first time I didn't cry while I was there...but you are so missed. Dr. Gullapali is doing a good job following in your footsteps. His demeanor and well, bedside manner would make you proud.
Miss you Mina, oh so much. Thank you for all you did and all you continue to do through those you taught. Thanks for being my partner in my retina journey.

My daughter, Michelle Dao, had retinal detachment when she was a sophomore at Binghamton University. Michelle had problem with retina of the left eye when she was in high school and was under care of Dr. Lee in Williamsiville, NY. When Michelle had problem with retinal detachment of her left eye, luckily that Dr. Lee sent her to Dr. Mina Chung. Dr. Mina Chung saved my daughter's eyesight.  She did 2 operations for her left eye and Michelle's eyesight has been OK since 2017. The second operation was done at 7:00 pm, even though it was that late, Dr. Mina Chung came out with a contagious smiling, talked to me to let me know that everything was OK. What a kind, caring and dedicated doctor she is.
I have been so busy with work and family, I haven't in touch with the Flaume Eye Institute for a long time. I just retired and planned to visit Flaume Eye Institute to say thanks to Dr. Mina Chung in person. Today I just found out that she is gone. I am in shock and can't stop crying. It is such a big loss for everyone. She is in the heart of our family forever.

Dear Mina, I have thought of you a lot lately, and regretted not letting you know how special you were to us. All the good things I read about you from other people are true, and each one of us has our own experiences to hold onto and cherish. You were such a light that people thought you'd always be there, I suppose, as I did, like the sun is. Thank you for being who you were in Steve's and my lives. I'm glad you were born.

Dear Mina,
We were so happy to see the Chung family this past weekend to celebrate my wedding. I know you and your Dad were there in spirit, and your smile and gentle character were sorely missed. I'm glad you got to see my siblings weddings, and that they were able to go to yours. Till we meet again.

I am so horrified to learn so late of Mina's passing. She was so, so dear to me. For a time in ninth grade she was my only friend, and later, we were each bridesmaids in each other's weddings. I feel just heartsick that I did not keep in touch. She got me through physics in eleventh grade, taught me about Korean food, laughed with me on the floor of her room. I watched her Julliard recitals from probably seventh grade on. She was faultlessly kind and gentle, and far more brilliant than I can describe. Oh, Mina, I am so sorry. I love you.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Chung’s passing. 17 years ago she saved my eye sight. Her compassion and empathy inspired me to have my own career in healthcare. I am so forever grateful for her dedication to help others, and I know that she will always be remembered by the patients she served.

You are missed and loved and remembered by so many, Mina. I will never forget your kind and gentle spirit. An angel while here on earth, and assuredly an angel up above us now. Amazing to think that you left us all right before the pandemic began, 2 years ago now. I am sure that you are watching us all with angel's wings from above.

My heart goes out to your family for your tragic loss.

Mina, you were one of the kindest people I knew at Yale. Hei-Ock Kim put us in contact, remember? With a smile and a cheery glint in your eyes, you would brighten any dreary or stressful day. Reading your tributes, I see I am not alone in having been blessed by your infectious goodness. Thanks and peace to you!

Mina, you will be forever missed. It’s as if a part of our childhood had gone with your passing. I remember meeting you freshman year at Yale when you dated the person who can’t be named :-), and you played the piano beautifully, which in my book, made you extra special! You ALWAYS had such a positive energy, an infectious smile, and a nonjudgmental attitude, and I appreciated that. Later, when you temporarily moved to LA, we saw each other again and it seemed like you were in a really good place then. I am sad that we didn’t stay in touch, but I will never forget you. Rest in peace.

It has taken me a while to express my gratitude to Dr Chung after learning of the accident. I am at a loss for words. We traveled from Binghamton because she was recognized as the best for a detached retina. My retina was repaired and I gained my eyesight back. What a incredible Doctor and great person. My condolences to her family and may she rest in peace.

Mina,
I continue to mourn you. Your were one of the most gifted people I've ever known; you were an extraordinary physician, musician, family member and friend. Your love of fun and adventure lived alongside an incredibly calm, kind, and generous presence. From the moment I met you in the first few days of freshman year, I knew you were a truly special one. Thank you for all you gave to the world.

I met Mina through a mutual colleague at U Rochester, Dave Kleinman, who was helping us at Editas Medicine develop a method for showing structural changes in cone photoreceptors of patients with LCA10 following treatment with EDIT-101, a CRISPR-based medicine. We invited her to give a talk to the scientists and clinical researchers at the company in 2017. Her talk was very inspiring and the highlight of the year. She was a brilliant and warm person whose contributions we will always remember.

I just learned of the death of Dr. Chung. How sad for so many. I had been her patient for many years until I moved to Ithaca. She was always so kind, funny, encouraging, and as we all know brilliant! It is lovely to see all the photos of her life over the years. She will be missed by so many but we are all the better for having known her, even if for a short while.
