Dear (Auntie) Minnie

On behalf of the Figueiredo Family in Watford, England, we would like to say thank you for your friendship over many years. We enjoyed together many picnics in the park, family meals, laughs, jokes and parties. Our familes were united in the joint experiences of having arrived in Watford, of all places, from East Africa. The children became friends. Sena and Alirio were good buddies. I, Sarita, enjoyed the cruise trips with you. You enjoyed life to the fullest and this was contagious. Your faith saw you through life's challenges. Most of all you'll be remembered for being a lovely, kind and generous friend. Now you RIP with angels and saints. Enjoy the party now with all who have gone before. Love, Sarita, Annete and family x

her Life

Minivia "Minnie" Euphemia Fernandes

Our dearly beloved Mother, Grandmother and Sister; Minnie Fernandes passed away on April 16, 2021.
It is a huge shock for us all.
Last week, we had all enjoyed 6 days touring Krabi and the Southern Islands with close friends. Mum had enjoyed getting a fireman’s lift from Murray. She also delighted in recounting her Uganda days stories and arriving in England "without even a spoon to her name”!
Gordon and I had been planning to bring her back to Watford in the summer so she could catch up with all her dear family and friends.
We are so thankful for the joys that she brought us, especially the past one and half years that we had with her, here in the sunshine in Phuket.
At her last supper, on April 14, she was in such high spirits. I am thankful that Kyle pressed me to invite Emmy and Gordon over for an impromptu family dinner. We had all had a joyful time together. Before dinner, Mum lost the first round of cards and become P I G, so she desperately wanted us to continue playing, so she could pass the title to someone else and she deftly did!

On April 15, she had a normal day. In the late evening she complained of breathing difficulties. She suffered just a few moments and passed peacefully on the way to the hospital at 00.15 on April 16.

She will be missed so dearly and is now shining down on us with our dear dad.
We celebrated her 80th last month and we are grateful that she was full of laughter and life to the end. We hope to bring back her ashes in the summer so you can all give her a send off that she deserves.
Thank you for your love!

Nana's favourite things:

Shared by Elizabeth Fernandes on April 18, 2021
- Food - a definite foodie. She loved cooking and most importantly eating Indian food. (She also loved Greggs sausage rolls).
- Travelling - Nana was so adventurous and travelled the world.
- Music - The radio was always playing in her flat, much to our amusement she knew all the words to the latest pop songs.
- The Chase - her favourite quiz show. It was on everyday without fail.
- Plastic bags - quite the collection of plastic bags.
- Cards and Bingo - her favourite pass time, she taught the whole family to play & was her usual cheeky self when we lost.
- Freebie's - Nana taught us to be thrifty and how to re-use stamps!
- Bella Italia - Daniella recalls Nana often taking us to this Italian restaurant in Watford and letting Dani eat ice cream. It is now one of Dani's favourite restaurants.

The lost phone

Shared by Elizabeth Fernandes on April 18, 2021
Just one of many funny memories I have of Nana:

In February I received a message saying Nana had lost her phone whilst on her Thailand adventure. The whole family searched everywhere for the phone, but to no avail.
This wasn't the first phone Nana lost, so she thought she had dropped it somewhere like the others.
I posted out a new a sim card and Nana bought a new phone from a shop in Phuket.
6 weeks passed and still no sign of the lost phone...Until...

Nana's phone was found all wrapped up in her bag of chocolates... In the fridge!
6 weeks of that poor phone in the fridge, it was hilarious!

Nana always made us smile and kept us on our toes, cherished memories x
