My mom was born with the name Eliza William her father was Jeff or Jefferson Williams and her mother’s maiden name was Rosa Moppins
her mother died during the (Covid-like) Spanish Flu whic started in 1918 and lasted until 1920. I lost my grandmother, Rosa,  my great  grandmother Eliza Lyles, my great great grandfather (Stewart Lyles) and other family members. That was a bad Flu. The influenza pandemic of 1918 caused the death of over 50 million people. So my mother used her mother’s maiden name as she was only 8 years old and lived with the “Moppins” her aunt and uncles. She had a sister Eva whi can be found in thev 1920 USA Federal Census.
