Mona Sue Stafford passed peacefully away on Wednesday, January 21, with family members by her side.

Mona was born on January 25, 1938 in Decatur, Illinois and spent most of her life in the Kalamazoo, Michigan area. In 2006, after many years as a “snowbird”, Mona and her husband relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida as year-round residents.

Mona is survived by her husband of more than 30 years, Robert Stafford, a daughter, Rebecca Duke of San Antonio, Florida and a son, Scott Towne, of Otsego, Michigan.  Mona was the proud grandmother of two boys, Noah and Dylan Towne and was especially close with her sister, Marcia Burrows, and nieces, Michelle Doerr and Rochelle Keeler, who also survive.

Mona enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, visiting with neighbors, cooking, and relaxing with friends and family.   Mona was a sweet, warm and wonderful person, adored by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.  Following cremation, a small service of family and friends was held near Mona’s home in Port Charlotte and her extended family in Michigan will celebrate her life later this spring.
