Tribute to My Man

June 6, 2022, was the day I lost someone dear to me. Papa was by far one of the most amazing people I had the honor and pleasure of knowing. 

Growing up, he was a happy & generous man, someone everyone loved talking to and always wanted to hear stories from. In the small town where he lived, everyone around him knew who he was and everyone always knew they could rely on him for any reason. There was always music when he was around, there was happiness and everyone acted as if they didn't have a care in the world when he was in the room.

“My Man” as I fondly called him, was a great football fan. I loved spending the weekends at his house and watching football together. He was one-of-a-kind.  he was always there to encourage anyone who needs it.

My man was a man of few words, so when he did speak, everyone listened. I had the opportunity of staying with him for a while after my graduation . He worked hard to provide for his family, even in his old age.  He was a good man, although we had our squabbles sometimes.

 When he died, the news was shocking enough and we tried to prepare ourselves for his death. But no one can be prepared to lose a dear one. Months later, I still think about him, I still remember and laugh about the fun times we had together, especially when Chelsea won their last champions league trophy. I love and miss him and it still hurts whenever I think about him, but I'm glad I knew him. 

I take consolation in this quote “What is dead may never die, But rises again harder and stronger.”
